Default Building up the deltoid muscle

    Dear Kenpo brothers and sisters:

Several years ago I sustained a serious injury that almost cost me and my wife our lives. One of the consequences of the accident was the destruction and subsequent re-construction of my left shoulder AC joint. Since the surgery my practice of Kenpo has brought me long way from the days where I lacked the strength to lift up my left arm.

Yesterday at my Dr.'s he told me that the excercise was doing me good and to keep it up despite the chronic pain that I now experience.
I am taking pills for that and get my liver checked every 6 weeks.

When I asked him to evaluate my musculator he told me that my left deltoid muscle was less developed from my right. What excercise can I do that will affect this specific muscle group?

I do Kenpo forms and stretches along with strikes with both hands on a hanging tethered bag. I excercise with a big oak stick and also do Kung Fu type power and stretching excercises.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Seems that I'm the "link" dude this week. I like this site for good execution of techniques but, keep in mind that it's for bodybuilders so, I'd go much lighter in weight...

I used this site as a resource after I had back surgery. The doctor told me I'd never run or compete in jujitsu tourneys again. He said I'd lose as much as 80% of my flexibility...I think that he knew what he was doing when he told me this...motivating me to prove him wrong. Just keep at it and find out just how amazing the human body (in God's image) is.

This site has some really good suppliments as well.

    Good luck with the rehab.

I'd really ask a PT, some of the standard exercises might be frowned upon given the nature of the reconstruction.

I agree with Blindside, ask a PT.

Personally, I'd steer clear of any free weight excercises and stick to resistance oriented machines and equipment.

Nelson, See a PT for sure, as your doctor SHOULD have arranged. Don't be too quick to abandon free weights though. The shoulder is an incredible joint, that can be worked from many angles with a dumbell. Sometimes machines, with their fixed track and range of motion don't always allow you to exercise a muscle in the direction it needs. This from someone who has had 6 rotator cuff injuries in 25 years of lifting. Good luck with your rehab!

    Don't do any of these without a Doctor's O.K., and a trainer's instruction.

Dumbbell Lateral Raises or Military Presses work the deltoids.
