Try not to look at the techniques as a basis of sponteneity, it will become confusing if you start asking yourself how you get from Sword of Desctruction to Attacking Mace to Pincher to Delayed Sword, etc. etc. There needs to be a common platform from which you execute techniques if you really want to move from one to another. Ask your instructor how they go together, as you will get an array of opinions and approaches online. But, your best bet is just to understand the basics and make them as effective as possible.

Well put. Techniques, after all, are simply a series of basics put in a logical order based on a prescribed attack.
It sounds like your question may be more in line with "grafting" and/or "borrowing", but in reference to combo's one of my favorites I developed way back as a purple belt that I still like is against a right punch:
Step in with the right foot (RNB) executing a right inward block -> right back knuckle -> left palm heel -> right inward elbow -> right obscure elbow -> right back knuckle -> left palm heel -> Right straight punch -> right side kick -> cover out
This "sounds" really cool on a BOB punching dummy. Rat-a-tat-tat LOL
