I havebecome partial to Black Belt magazine, nainly because they do some articles about American Kenpo and because there really isn't anything better out there.

Black Belt was not very good for a long time. How many mail order Grand Master certificates does one need. I only occasionly bought it. Journal of Asian Martial Arts is good. A bit expensive; but, if you get a personal subscription it is reasonable.

    I hardly buy any anymore.

I used to love Black Belt.

But I now think that 90% of it is all advertisements, and poor representation (for the most part) of American Kenpo.

Once upon a time I used to buy Black Belt but, I got to the point that I would rather spend the money on a good book with more info in it that filter through advertisements to get to small articles.

A few years ago someone tried to get a Kenpo Magazine off the ground but it never really got off the blocks. It would be plausible to have an American Kenpo Magazine if it was a quarterly issuance.

I subscribe to "Black Belt." There's a publication called "Combat" out of England. It's pretty good if you can find it.

I'd love to see a "Kenpo Magazine." It may not be financially feasible to put out though. As a niche publication it might fly if issued quarterly, but how to get it off the ground? If anyone decided to do it, I would volunteer to write for it for free. No joke. If someone got enough "volunteers" it might become feasible to do.

One of the best ways to test the waters for a new magazine is through an E-zine, if you can get some peopel to subscribe to it online, then they would probably be willing to subscribe to a paper version. Bob Hubbard would have more information on this than most of us.

Hmmmmm.... an e-zine. You know, this could work. We have enough active members here from various backgrounds and organizations that we could pull off a "publication" that would be of interest to many Kenpo/Kempo practicioners. We could have quarterly interviews with Kenpo Seniors/Veterans. We could spotlight outstanding students from around the world. You could have articles on variations of techniques and discuss applied principles. Anyway, like I said, I'm down to help with whatever. Even web-space.

Taekwondo Times mainly. It really seems to rotate due to content. Sometimes Inside Kung Fu, Budo International, or Black Belt. Just depends on what I'm looking for in my MA reading.

Had a Black Belt Magazine subscription since '84 and I agree with Jamie it has changed quite a bit.

Used to buy old issues off ebay have a great one from 1968. Funny ads like mail order asian brides for black belts. You should check one of the old ones out if you get a chance.

Sometimes buy Inside Kung Fu (I did Choy Lay Fut for a few years).

I get Black Belt. I get maybe 2 articles of value per issue out of it.
A kenpo e-zine would be a fun read.

I used to like Black Belt Mag. It has in my opinion went steadily down hill
with mostly advertisements. Like instant Black Belt Certification,Just send the money and that sort of thing. I don't think the top magazine should post that sort of thing and expect us to respect them.

Only an old mans ideas. I am too old school to go along with that. I don't think I am the only one with that opinion.

I also think Asian Journal of Matiral Arts is one of the best publications out there. I don't think i've ever seen an article about kenpo in it though.

I agree with Jamie that BB has gone way down hill, between the quality of the articles and the sheer number of ads I find it dissapointing. If I see something of interest in the contents I will buy it, usually about three issues per year.

A kenpo dedicated magazine would be great, but how would we get everyone to agree on content given the fractious state of our art at the moment?
