Anybody watch this last night (Sun 8/20)? They measured impacts of strikes, balance, and weapons.

It was good until the TKD guy started throwing the katana in the air. Then he was hacking at a balistics gell dummy.

I agree it was good up until that point, I kept watching the nijitsu death strike over and over to see if I could pull that off, I did like the point that all the best strikes start with stances from the ground up. They never really did say which was the most deadly style to beat them all, unless I missed that part. And where was Speakmen or Tattum?

I thought it was a pretty good show, except for the dramatic "match-up" of style against style -- the boxer's punch is the best punch, the Muay Thai knee is the best kich, etc. They could have featured the strengths of all the styles without playing it out as a competition. They did that with the weapons as well. I wished they would have had more from Dan Inosanto.

The balance of the ninjutsu practitioner was amazing to watch.

I agree. They are pretty dumb if they failed to realize that the 120 lb kung fu guy isn't going to strke as hard the the 200 lb boxer.

I liked the show to see just how much power is generated in some strikes. I also have to say that watching that TKD guy with the Katana made me want to vomit. As person that has and continues to train in Iaido it was disgusting. It just made me sick. That was not iai but just flash that gets negative marks for the overall show... Then again like I've been told before, maybe I just held on to tradition too long... Nah!!! It was just disgusting.... Sorry for the rant...

I've got it recorded on the DVR. Haven't watched it yet though (it interfered with "The 4400" and the "Willam Shatner Roast". LOL.

Yeah, each practitioner that went up in pounds of force also weighed more. You'd think the "science" folks would have taken overall mass into account.

I also thought the represenative of Karate got jobbed a bit. I think he had the most power genereated in his side kick but lost out to a Muai Thai knee strike. last I knew they were two different things...

Yeah, and did anyone notice that they did not put up the stats for pounds of pressure on the knee strike, either.

I found the show pretty interesting although like others were saying i didn't like the way they had so much ephasis on style. Like when they did the punches how they said "Kung Fu has a punch of 680lbs of force." Instead of saying "This 120lb Kung Fu practitioner produced 680lbs of force, etc.." As if you trained in kung fu thats how powerful your punch can be. I guess thats why the public has such a skewed view of MA. oh well. I wish they had a kenpo practitioner when they were measure the hand speed and the acceleration of the strikes. that would have pretty interesting to see. Overall I'd have to say the show was decent, at least compared to "Final Fu" which is the sorriest excuse a martial arts show I've ever seen...

I think it was a very interesting concept, it just should have been presented better. I think if they dedicated episodes to different arts it would have been more interesting then trying to pack everything into 2 hours.

Yeah that TKD guy had some XMA in his background too. Last I checked there were no 540 degree kick in any traditional arts.

I once knew a korean master that said anyone wanting to get their 3rd degree in TKD in Korea had to be able to do 2 full revolutions in the air with a jumping spinning hook kick.

The show would have been better if they let the Myth busters guys do it instead.
