Default Are there healing techniques in your style of martial arts ?

I know that Tracy Kenpo has a healing component to it as taught by Dr. Ted Sumner. Has healing ever been a part of EP Kenpo? How bout some of the other styles represented on the forum. Are there any healers out there?

    That's an excellent question, Nelson.

Besides Kenpo, I am involved with Yang style Taiji. In that art, different forms are known to have healing effects on various organs. There is actually a whole art of energetic healing attached to Taiji, which ties in with Traditional Chinese Medicine.

While I have some familiarity with TCM, I am primarily using homeopathy in my work as a holistic health practitioner. I also practice certain forms of energetic healing that are similar to Eastern methods.

I recall reading somewhere that Kenpo's mother art Kosho-shorei-ryu includes herbology and other healing methods at an advanced level. Actually, Wikipedia says about its founder James Mitose: "He worked as an herbalist and was known to be an extraordinary healer."

I hail from Parker style kenpo in the los angeles area.

One of my business partners was nominated for the nobel prize in the medical field.

For healing, it is important to consider the difference between holistic (whole body) vs. allopathic.
Homeopathy is using the body's natural ability to heal it's self, similar to a cut, by using nutrients and herbs.
Holistic is a whole body approach to disease while the allopathic approach is to treat symptoms with drugs or surgery.

(It should be noted that Allopathic Doctors are MDs, and they have legislated all other medical experts as alternative doctors, creating a MD/pharmaceutical monopoly.)
MD's are the superstars because they fix broken bones and prescribe antibiotics and painkillers, they relegate 4/5 of the medical pie to the back of the bus.

Another important distinction is the level of understanding your medical expert has of the body.

This is important to distinguish because something like IBS or leaky gut, or diabetes, fatty liver, or thyroid imbalances can all be related - via the NEM or HPA axis.
But when you visit your MD they will typically treat the symptoms individually with a drug which is used to suppress the immune response to the offending stressors.
Think insulin or hormone therapy - or even enzyme/probiotics, none of which address the root cause of the issue but attempt to mitigate the damage being caused in the system.

Depending on their level of understanding, (and your ability to articulate,) they can only do so much to help you while literally managing the disease until death.

Your medical expert should be considering all systems and organs as they relate, while providing the raw materials the body and immune system requires to repair it's self.
That laser eye surgery is a god-send, but did it do anything to address the root cause of the issue? Those inhalers sure help people breath, but do they address the root cause?
Insulin is not so great and does not address the root cause for unhealthy blood sugar. Your MD may not get the $500,000 a year each diabetic is worth, but he works for the people who do..

It has been proven that all vertebrate require 60 minerals, 16 vitamins, 12 amino acids, and 2- 3 essential fatty acids per body weight each and every day, and if you fall short, it is just a matter of time before not enough calcium for example leads to some horrible disease such as osteoporosis. We have lost sight of this basic 2nd grade stuff. If you think eating Total cereal is going to give you 100%, you'll get sick off the fillers alone.

Consider this: Both doctors and athletes average age of death is 55 to 65 and these people are supposed to be the healthiest. Our multi million dollar athletes have access to the best teams of doctors money can buy. Brian Maxwell, power bars fame long distance runner, dead at age 51... Reggie Lewis - Boston Celtics age 27.. and his heart doctor died at age 48.. would you listen to these guys?? Meanwhile, 3rd world countries have 40 times the number of 100 yr olds then the USA, and they have no medical system, no insurance, no pharmacy.

From a karate point of view, we need to take in 100 nutrients that we sweat out every day. Our water or poweraids only have a handful of these nutrients and our green swamp drinks only have maybe 20 or 30, nowhere near the 90 needed daily in the proper ratios. We must supplement and be men and women about it by stepping up to help our families and loved ones in this area, because we have been let down by the medical industry. The MD will still be there for the broken bones.

Add another 20-40 years to your life. Be the healthy authority figure in your social community. Show people how to get healthy blood sugar, niacin instead of nicotine, and so on.
