    Default Regrets

Do you have any training regrets? Someone you wanted to train with and no longer can, missed an amazing event, never competed etc....

Sometimes, I regret the break I took in kenpo, because I ended up forgetting so much....but I also LEARNED a whole bunch of thing about it that you don't pick up in a classroom.

    So its a trade off.

I think my bigget regret is not getting to more events, when I had less things to tie me down in life.

I have always regretted not taking the advantage of the opportunities I had to meet Mr. Parker in the 70's.

I would have liked to have started earlier. I started kenpo at 20. It would have been nice to have a few more years plus a slight possability of meeting Mr. Parker in person.

I had the chance to do that in the late 70's also, got lazy, and missed out on it.

I guess this would be considerd a regret in that I started late. When I started I first trained under Mr. Jim Clark who is under SGM Paul Mills in the AKKI but after only six months he moved two of his Black Belts took over the class and did a wonderful job but I regret not learning more from Mr. Clark because he could teach me and show me things that would "click" because we both had similar body shapes (which are not common body shapes I might add) and not may others could because they didnt understand that my body doesnt move that way, any way I regret not learning more from my first instructor.

I guess I'm like most here. I wish I would've taken advantage of training earlier in my life. Although I'm happy I'm finally doing what I always wanted to.

I regret that when my school closed about a year ago that I chose not to train or practice my kenpo until recently reconnecting with some of the teachers there.

I do not regret practicing Tai Chi in the interim. I tried the external (kung fu) program at that school, but found it extremely awkward and much more impractical than what I learned at kenpo. I guess I should not regret it, though, because it did help me strengthen my legs and allowed me to discern why I liked kenpo instead.

I truly regret not starting in Kenpo while I was stationed in San Antonio, TX. I spent almost four years down there. Seems that city has quite a few choices of schools. Just think where I would be in my training if I had started then. But sadly I spent many, many nights on the dance floor of some honky-tonk bar.

But I guess its a fair trade I missed a lot of good training but gained a wife out of the deal.

My biggest regretevent though it was out of my hands was to not start while Mr. Parker was still around. Hmmm he died when I was 7 years old. I would have loved to figure out his secets. But now I am stuck with books and videos of him.

My biggest regret is to this day still not understanding what got me removed from my first lineage, and later reinstated. I got a call that said I was out - and 3 weeks later a call asking me to come back. Still way, way confused.

I have seen that kind of thing before, luckily you were asked to return where many would not have been.

I lived about 10 minutes from Mr. Parker's Pasadena school for four years and never even knew it. It wasn't until after I moved away that I discovered Kenpo and started my training. I can't tell you how many times I have thought to myself, "If I had only known!"

To me that would be a huge regret. I only got to meet Mr. Parker a few times and have always wished it could have been more.
