There are some interesting points in that video. What speaks to me most so far (about half way through the vid) is that he keeps reiterating the point about working the techniques from movement rather than from a static position.

How often do we as kenpoists practice our techniques like this:

Attacker and defender "square off" ; attacker launches predetermined attack, say a right punch; defender applies a techniuq, possibly blending, rearranging, etc

In the video Vunak and his "attacker" have predetermined the attack and defense scenario BUT it is fluid; they are "sparring" with attacker throwing jabs, etc and Vunak countering and eventually when the conditions are ripe he counters with the technique he wanted to work and train.

You may or may not agree with the techniques he is using but his methods bear some thought.

I work this concept often with my students. It is street sparring.

    Thanks

I have worked techniques into sparring drills, but haven't gone as far as let it free flow like Vunak does in his video. Something more to try.

    Cool stuff.

I get tired of point sparring. I think that the way we train, is the way we will react. The next step of street sparring is street sparring with multiple attackers.

We don't do point sparring at our school any longer. In fact the last time I participated in a tourney I had to be warned not to use elbows and knees Everything we do is continuous and the higher belts are permitted to incorporate takedowns and groundwork. I totally agree that how we train will affect how we will instinctively react.

Last time I was in a tourn, I was warned for a kick to the the backside of the groin. Looked like a point to me. They didnt see that way.

Why wouldn't that be a point?

I use the straight blast regularly, but more of a boxing style of punching, I don't get much power from the WC chain punching.
