I remember when?
I remember when oil came in paper cans with metal tops and bottoms. I remember the oil spout you had to stab in the oil can to open and pour.
When you could buy leaded gas and they sold the plastic insert to put leaded gas in an unleaded car.
When we had no remote control for the TV, when you had to switch from UHF to VHF on the dial of a TV, party phone lines, when he had BW TV’s and when VCR first came out.
What are some of the things you remember?

I remember when A&W had drive up service and the girls wore roller skates to deliver the food....I remember roller skating before rollerblading existed..I remember when Trudeau was our leader...I remember when there were no ATM's

I also remember the Oil Cans, Glass Coke Bottles, Pop Cans had a metal tab you pulled back, A&W Drive In Restaurants, Pierre Trudeau, and McDonalds and A&W were the only major restaurant chains around in Canada. I remember Black & White Tv, UHF, VHF, No remotes, the basic atari ssytem, Pong, and I also remember stubby beer bottles.
Quality outweighs quantity every time.

I have two of the oil cans in my shed out back. I was contemplating opening them with a screwdriver and using the oil in my lawnmower a month or so back.
I remember when the arcades only had pinball, shuffleboard style bowling and shooting games that shot little metal balls at metal targets. I'm not that old though! It's when I was really young.

I remember the first time I saw color TV. It was a football game at some friends of my parents. I was in grade school.

I remember a lot of that as well.
I still have the original "pong" game. I think I got it for Christmas in '74 or '75.
I remember when electronics had "dials" instead of "buttons" (including the first beta, paneling covered VCR we had)
I remember my Grandpa puttin' peanuts in my RC cola and eating moon pies. (It's a Southern thing)
I remember only having 4 channels to choose from (NBC, CBS, ABC, and the local Indie channel). I had to go outside and manually turn the pole holding the antenna before my dad got an automatic antenna that could be electronically turned from inside the house! LOL.
I remember when "underoos" came out and begging my mom for the batman pair.
I remember when GI Joe dolls were 8'in tall and had real fuzzy beards and hair.
I remember using my sisters 8 track cassette player as a "detonator" when playing army (because it was red and had a handle sticking out the top so it resembled one) and making her mad because I got dirt in it and she couldn't play her new "Monkey's" 8 track cassette.
I remember using a sneaker and one of my mom's 33' albums (for you young folks it's like a big, black, plastic cd) to make a ramp with so I could jump my Evil Kneaval doll and motorcycle over my sisters Beach Barbie Dune Buggie.

PhotoMats, what a horrible job that had to be stuck in that little booth!
I also remember having to physically walk across the room and change the tv channel, to one of 5 choices.
Hardware stores - you could go in and buy ONE washer or screw, nothing was pre-packaged, they would have millions of little drawers. And they would take the 12 cent o-ring you bought and fix your faucet for free!
I remember thinking we were cutting edge when we got an extra long cord for the handset of our rotary phone. You could actually walk around the whole kitchen while talking!

I remember waiting Election results (1936) on our old Car battery powered Radio (We lived in the country then) between Franklin Roosevelt and Alf Landon.
Again in 1944 and 1948 Between FDR and Thomas Dewey.

I remember taking my son for his first kenpo lesson about 35 years ago.

Brotha man... my father's t.v. may not have had a remote control in the box when it came home from the store, but my father did have a remote control. He named it god damn it, and it changed the channels often. Now that I think of it, that remote control was me.
