I go to a school that has several employees. I usually bring a tray of baked goodies for everyone to share.
With the holidays getting very close I have question for everyone.
Is it ok to get your instructor something for Christmas, or could that be seen as an attempt to buy off this person? What if classes are done for this year until January does that change the way it looks?
Also if this is something that is acceptable what would you get your instructor? Would it change what you got this person if they were also the school owner?
Just wanted to put this out there and see if this is an acceptable practice.

Our school is pretty small one instructor but it’s the family business.
I was thinking along the lines of maybe a Home Depot gift card or something just to say thanks. I know I pay for classes but how do you put a value on what I am learning. And the fact that a robot can stand up there and tell you how to move but it’s a teacher that shows you why.

Yes. Some of us do individual gifts (mostly instructors) and then the class usually does a group gift. gift card is a usually bought with the money collected.
More Shugyo!
I will definitely be buying them something.
I always have. It's the season for "giving" after all. I also some times get the class something (we're small too.) Like last year I got the class karate key chains. Nothing expensive really, but just to show I was thinking about them.
Sifu always outdoes me though. He got me the Encyclopedia of Kenpo last year. That was too cool!

I usually do, just something small... This year I got him a copy of John Bishop's Kajukenbo book, but then he went and bought one for himself. Anyone want to buy a copy of John Bishop's Kajukenbo book?
We have an Anniversary party and I usually get the head of our system a gift for that occaison.
A year ago I gave all my Tiger & Dragon's a belt rack, my regular children's class Yawara. The Adults Either got Yawara or Escrima depending on where they were in their training.
Several students got me gifts, and a few bought me some Guiness.
Quality outweighs quantity every time.
