    Thumbs up Drive-In Movie:

    Hi,
Last night I took the kids to a new "Drive-In movie" that just opened up and they loved it.
When was the last time you went to a "Drive-In" ??
Why did so many of them disappear??
What have I learned from this???

I haven't been to one in 20 or 25 years. My guess is they disappeared because the owners could make more money selling off the land to residential or commercial developers than they could selling movie tickets. I know the one that I used to spend every summer weekend through high school now has 20 or 30 houses on it. Too bad there aren't more still around. We used to have a blast at them.

I have a drive in about 10 mins away from me that is still open..
I was there last year and planning to go to it this year..
I like it because you don't have the distractions like(People talking thru the movie, People kicking your seat, etc....) I also like it because you can see more then 1 movie for the same price. The drive in is good old Family fun, People of any age can enjoy it..

I think why they are disappearing because it comes down to the old mighty dollar........property is worth more to sell to a developer then it is to run it.

We still have one in Wichita www.starlitefun.com they have a brief they play before the movies that explains the methods and what they are doing to keep cost down and customers happy (even an insect resistance program) and explain about speaker care, trash pickup, and concessions support (they only make 25% of ticket gross) But I appreciate it and enjoy it, we went and saw Monster-in-Law The Longest Yard and Sahara last weekend all for under 20 bucks.....try that at a megaplex! I plan on supporting mine and helping anyway I can (like cleaning up my trash) because this one has been around a long time and I have some teenage memories there lol

I would love to have a drive in movie near me. The last time I went I saw a double feature- Rocky III and For Your Eyes Only. That must have been '82, '83. Probably paid less than what a candy bar costs at theatres these days.

My wife and I are going to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith at the drive-in this coming Friday. She's a big Brad Pitt fan, lol. I try to convince her that he looks like me, but she's not buying into it.

Oh well, at least Angelina Jolie is in the movie.

Would love to, but have never been to one; they disappeared around here sometime in the late 70's or early 80's (real estate boom).

I miss the Drive In movies. Before me or any of my friends could drive we would sneak out to the drive in and sit along the back fence with a transistor radio.

I think the drive ins went the way of the dinosaur because it was easier to stya home pop in a video with out having to pack up the entire family and wait until dark.

There is a drive-in just down the road from me........I havent been in about 12 years.....But every long weekend when I was a teenager it was the place to be, "The All Night Drive-In" was the party.

I think I need to take the kids sometime.

    Unhappy Re: Drive-In Movie:

None left around me. There used to be one right down the street called Highway 39. It was fun years ago but at the end there were just too many idiots.

No drive-ins here. We do have a very old theater. Mostly I just rent and see it at home.

I read about a month ago that the Drive-In is making a a very quiet comeback. Several new ones have opened up the last several months with a couple more planned.

We used to have one locally but, it eventually closed down (and yes it is a subdivision now). The owner just couldn't compete with the cine-plex.

The last movie I remember seeing at a drive in was "Star Wars" back in '76 or '77 I believe.
