    Default Help w/ the STICK

Well, my floppy drive is about done in. I keep loosing files and notes and other important stuff- and some non-kenpo stuff also. The CD drive never has worked right, to copy or to read (could be me, except that others who are not computorily disfunctional have the same problems). So, I'm going to have to do something else.

    I'm looking at this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233008

But, to tell the truth, I have no idea what it is, really. It's memory, obviously. But will it work for just redoing my notes? Can I transfer text from my floppies that still work? ...from e-mails? ...from this forum? ...scan text from print, then transfer it to this thing? Can I edit text? Can a micro moron use the thing?

Would 2 gigabites be enough to store a prodigouse ammount of kenpo notes?

Is there something better (read that easier to use and/or will last at least a week longer on the computer market)?

I'm lost, obviously. So, any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Dan C

I have one and I love it. You can use it to transfer files, pictures, videos, etc. between computers or use it as a mini hard drive. I recommend getting one. Just plug it in to your USB and go.

I also have a flash drive and love it. My home computer doesn’t even have a floppy drive. As for your question on storage a 2 Gig flash drive would hold about as much as 1388 floppy disks. That should hold anything think you could every write about Kenpo and then some. Hope that helps

Well, that's a couple of discs short. I suppose I could get a bigger stick...

Wow. Let's see using Microsoft Word docs as a benchmark you get about 63 pages per MB. At 2 Gigs you will only have about 126,000 pages of Kenpo notes. You are right you will need a bigger stick.

OK, so it only looks that big from this end of the project! Sheesh!

But, thanks for the help, guys. I'm ordering the thing here shortly.

    HA! I wish!

Thing should be here in a couple of days. If this one doesn't work, I may take a stick to my computer, though. I'm getting really tired of redoing my notes!

I do have hard coppies of a lot of them, so hopefully I can find someone with a scanner and get them back on e-file. Then, hopefully I can make necessary edits and changes without it looking like a mess.

I had a lot of stuff from this forum which was not (most of it) on hard coppy. And I don't just cut and paste that stuff- I edit, condense, combine, compare, reword and rework... ad infinitum (or ad nauseum looking at redoing it!!!).

Any one have any cheese to go with my whine? I'll share if you will...

It just arrived. It's a Patriote XPORTER XT 2GB. Panic mode here- no instructions!

But, that's ok. I figured out what was what, and found a port on the computer that it fit into. I also think I've found the right drive- E:. So, if you don't hear from me for a while there's a good chance I'll fry my computer when I try to use the thing.

    Into the void...

Thanks, Carol. I disabled the IM feature because most times it was used, it dumped the forum. I had to be walked through that process as well. The limmits of my expertise with these things is a certain fluency with swearing.

If I can find that kid, he's the one that suggested I get this in the first place. But, since he's left home and graduated college (degree in computers- go figure) he's hard to get ahold of.

Dan, when you plug it into the USB port.....it should show up in "my computer" as a separate drive.......as you said.....drive: e?

you should just be able to double click to open a window and then drag and drop files onto it.

Drag and drop? I was feeling pretty good there- I mannaged to copy and paste one file from Word Pad, most of which I copied and pasted from posts here and edited in Word Pad (some of you are now immortalized, by name and topic, if this thing doesn't go the way of the other drives). But, how do you drag and drop? Is that quicker or easier?

so you made a copy of something in word pad and saved it to "My Documents".
Now you take your new thumbdrive, stick it in the USB port.
From here you can do 1 of 2 things.
    1. Go to "My Computer", double click e: drive, open a window.
go to "My Documents".....now you can have 2 windows open side by side.
left click and hold on the file.....drag it over to the other window which is the e:drive....voila, drag and drop.

    2. Go to "My Documents", find your file, right click to get your drop down menu, go to "send to", it should have "drive:e" there.....click it....you're done.

BCB- thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. It's after midnight now, and I have quite a bit in memory already. But this does sound like a better way than what I've been doing.
