    Default Favorite Work-Out Music

What music moves you to practice forms? What music really pumps you up when you're working the bag?? What music makes you want to spar???
....just curious. I remember reading that SGM Ed Parker enjoyed classical. How about you?

Right now there's a new band out of Australia that I really like called Wolfmother. They have a release called "Women" if anybody is interested in looking for it.

classical can work nicely.. Mozat's "Confutatis" from Requium would be great for a form.

personaly I like somethign a little darker..

    Tactical Sekt
    Skinny Puppy
    Velvet Acid Christ
    Kate Mosh (yes.. "Mosh")
    p24
    Ministry

stuff like that... something you will likely never hear on local radio.

    Old school R&B for me.
There's one song though called 'Cotton-eyed Joe' (the newer version) that has the best beat for punching to. It's really fast.

I like a little of the new hip hop. Not the profane stuff. Song like 'yeah' or 'in the club'

Good beat. Lots of Gap Band, Earth-Wind-& Fire and the like.

I've got a little mp3 player that is firmly plugged into my ears during my whole workout.

It bugs the complete **** out of me when someone in the gym decides to change the station and put on country or another puts on light christian rock. When you're preparing to lift something heavy neither of the 2 will do the job.

When I was lifting at 5am one instance there was me and 1 other guy. Metallica was on the radio and he walks over to put on some 50's music . After that he walked into another room . About a minute later I turned it back to metallica and started lifting again. He comes out and say's I think we have a problem. I said "YEP", "now leave the station alone". He walked back into the other room.

I've had problems with this individual before. He's 68yrs. old and knows everything there is about everything. All you have to do is ask him and he'll tell you that. He has told me how to lift more times than I care to remember. No one really cares for him in the gym b/c of his attitude. Besides I figured if he was in the other room it didn't matter to him what was on the radio. I do know that he didn't like when Black Sabbath's fire song came on. He ran to the radio and switched it in a hurry.

When im working out hard I like real metal. like dimmu borgir, prayer for cleansing, black daliah murder, Astarte, etc.. the kind of stuff where when someone else heres it they say "What is that god awful noise?" When im going light and relaxing I like something lighter such as Led Zeppelin or the Doors.

Well...not what I work out to but this band deserves a mention. And there's a Kenpo tie-in as well.

Funny, I was listening to some local bands at a club the other night and I thought they'd all be good for forms and workouts...it was death metal, which I hate if im listening to music for the same of listening...but for a work out it would be great for the beats and I can ignore the noise they call singing.

All good! Never heard of p24, mind you, but if they're in the same vein as the above, probably good.

Depending on how I feel that day, I also like the lighter, more poppish side of electronica. Assemblage23, Icon Of Coil, etc.

Great beats to work a bag to. Heh.

Definitely metal. Decapitated, Origin, Immolation, and Psycroptic have been in my workout rotation for a while. Just recently picked up the new ones from Fragments of unbecoming and Demiricous - they both rock. I also dig the viking stuff like Borknagar, Enslaved, Wintersun, Ensiferum, etc. All joking aside, there is some pretty heavy polka out there - Finntroll and Alamaailman Vasarat make polka (or klezmer in the case of AV) rattle your skull.

This may sound silly, but I conciously dont' listen to music while I'm hitting the bag because I don't want to develop the habit of having my strikes fall into a regular rhythm.
