Default anyone watch future weapons on hist?

i watched this show yesterday sometime (i recorded it) they were talking about the Barret M something or other.. it is the .50 cal sniper rifle

holy fook.. this gun is awsome...at 1000 meters the bullet is still traveling at almost 3000 fps...

it has been proven effective in our current war at over 2400 meters.. that is like a mile and a half.. a sniper hit some one through some sort of tin shield at a mile and a half...

ordanary civilan rounds will just poke through like 2" steel at 1000 meters.. armor piercing or explosive rounds (military only) will go right through that **** like butter

there have been reports of it cutting a person in half at 1000 meters..

dont want to be on the recieving end of that one

this is one scary gun to be faceing... tough to defen against when you go down form getting hit before you hear the sound of the gun shot form 1.5 miles away

I have seen that episode, really good. Now for some perspective for some of our american members who may not understand some of these distances mentioned. A metre is 39 inches. A 1000 metres is called a Kilometre which is 6/10 of a mile.
    Quality outweighs quantity every time.

Speaking of future weapons, anyone see last nights show? They showed a not lethal beam that can pinpoint one person in a crowd from I think they said 650 Feet (for us American folks) LOL. Anyway it penetrates 1/64th of an inch under the skin and causes a reaction with the water molecules in the skin. The molecules move back and forth very fast and cause a heating sensation those affected will move from the area and have no lasting effects. Great for crowd control.

Then they showed a 6 wheeled vehicle that can be driven by remote or it can operate autonomously it will actually find its own way around an impassable area to make it to the designated destination.

They also showed sensors that can be dropped from a un manned plane. These sensors will burry themselves in to the ground and sit idle until they detect movement. At that point they will detect what is going by how to defeat what ever the threat may be (Tank, Armored personal carrier, Hummer, or foot troops) then it will take action against the threat and destroy that threat all on its own. And all this is wired to talk to every solder on the ground so everyone from the ground troop to the commander is aware o what is going on at all times.

The new toys we have are just mind boggling.

I believe some versions of Barrett rifles are available to civilians. http://www.barrettrifles.com/ if only I had an exta $8K or so laying around.

For the history minded, shots of over 1000 yards are fairly well documented. Most famous of all is the Billy Dixon shot into an Indian Medicine man at 1538 yards (1406meters) with open sights, black powder and a Sharpes 50-90 buffalo rifle at the Battle of Adobe Walls in 1874 I believe.

I love that show and notice the host was willing to let them try that beam on him!
