    Default Favorite and Why?

What is your favorite piece of work-out equipment/or method? Do you like working the bag the best? Why? Do you feel you gain more from practicing forms? Why? What and why?

I love all aspects of Kenpo - forms, sets, techniques (especially when hitting someone, LOL), and sparring.

At this point of time (it may change in a few months), I enjoy continuous sparring for a cardio workout.

I am really enjoying the exploration of the beginner levels again. As instructors we sometiomes get burnt out teaching delayed sword over and over, and over again, But right now I am really enjoying the Yellow and orange material and finding interesting correlations to help each student retain the information to fit their personalities.

Lately I've incorporated weighted gloves, wrist weights, and ankle weights in to my routine. Working the bag, doing forms, etc... I've noticed a difference in the last few weeks. I broke a wavemaster the other day! LOL. Broke the stem between the bag and the base....and no, I didn't hit the stem..I hit the bag! DOH! "Ug-ug-ug. I don't know me own skrenth"->best Popeye voice. ROFL.

I love doing techniques but now that I have started sparring a lot more that has become my new favorite thing.

I like hanging out in tough areas with money hanging out of my pocket.

It's a great way to get to work all sorts of interesting techniques.

I like the working the forms. It helps me "see" the whole picture as a newbie.

Isn't that the "Bill Cosby" Karate workout?

Free weights at the gym and the occassional use of the smith machine.

Do you like working the bag the best? Why?
I haven't used the heavy bag in a long time. I don't have one here or at the studio. We have a bunch of wavemasters there that I kick around when I feel like it. I put a more vested interest into practicing forms the most. While practicing those I try and keep a specific thing in mind to work on. Like stances, or transitions, power, punching, aerobic activity moving fast with good control.

    What and why?
    Just gave it to you.

Trejo said, at a seminar, that that's how Parker developed and practiced the techniques, by hanging out and picking fights.

    Funny. (And a little warped)

I'd heard that. I understand that many of the people in Hawaii used to get "hands on" practice by fighting with the drunken sailors back in the day. The way I understand it, Adriano Emperado's brother got knifed and died because of it.... from what I've heard anyway. At any rate, I wouldn't suggest this mode of training. Especially in today's environment unless you want to test gun defenses.
