    Default Universal Kempo

I was wondering if anyone had information on Professor Martin Buell of the Universal Kempo Karate in Hawaii? I understand Mr. Buell is from the Kajukenbo line. Any information about the style would be appreciated. Thank you!

Professor Buels connection to Kajukembo is throuh his assciation with Professor Walter Godin. Professor Godin is now passe away. Professor Godin was good friends with Joe Emperado who is the brother of kajukembo founder Adriano Emerpado. Professor Godin trained with Joe Emperado till Joe untimely passing in a night club in Hawaii probabl in Palama.
Professor Godin ran the Godin School of Self Defense. This is where Martin Buel recieved his black belt and later promotions. When Professor Godin had legal problems and sent to prison Martin Buel took over the Schools. He then changed the name to Universal Kempo Karate Schools Assciation. In 1980 there was a big ceremony and demonstration in which Martin Beul was promoted to black belt. At that time there was five people holding the rank of Chief Intsructor. I can only remember three. The late Johathan Vance Jesse Menegdeg and my Instructor Chief Instructor Stan Paps. I was promoted to Black Belt ( now called student black belt) in Dec of 1999. I am no longer a member of the Assciation but it was some of my best training in the Martial Arts I have ever had. Though I continue to train with chief Instrutor Papas and am also studing Shotokan karate. I hold the rank of brown belt in that style.
Enjoy your training you are in good hands and I am sure your insturtor is well qualified. Professor Buel does not promot unqualifed insturctors. So understand the Void of Knowlede develop your Mind, Body and Spirit.

Where the other chief instructors Greg Nakano, Garland Johnson, Chris Ragone and Brain Tokushima? back in the early 90's, these gentlemen were chief instructors and now are Asst. Professors. I can only assume that they were part of the original group. I take Universal Kempo here in Hawaii, and upon my visit to my sisters and Mom in Seattle, see that there are a couple of schools right in Seattle.

There where only five original Chief Instructors. I can only rembember four.
    Johnathan Vance
    Stanford Pappas
    Gregory Nakano
    Jesse Menegdeg

Garland Johnson was not a Chief Instructor back then nor was Chris Ragone. I wish I could remember the other Chief Instructor of the original five. I just moved and found my old book maybe its in there. I do not think it was Brian Tokushima either
Yes there are three or four UKKSA in the Seattle area now. None in the Tacoma area. I have been training in Kajukenbo Chuan FA in my home town of Puyallup for about eight months now with Professor Ron Tapec. I am having a great time and glad to be back in the Ohana.
