Default Arrow strike to side fist

Do any of you folks in Chinese kenpo use an arrowhead strike against nerve and pressure points of the body?

For those who don't know the arrow hand position is preformed by extending the knuckle of the index finger in the fist and bracing the first knuckle of the index finger with the thumb. The strike on it's own is extremely effective against nerve points, throat, artery's, etc.. The question that I'm wondering about is the "morphing" of the nerve strike to a half fist after initial contact is made. I've been playing around with doing this on my mak and it looks like there is some potential here.

I have used it in my training, but not the way you have mentioned. A study of Uechi-Ryu shows that this is the only fist that they use (although, a full fist was added to the first kata Kanshiwa for beginners). There are other chinese studies that use this fist almost exclusively as well. I think when conditioned and trained well, it is a devastating weapon no matter what it hits.

Can you elaborate, what you mean by morphing into a half fist after contact is made? I am picturing the other finger knuckles extending, but not understanding the purpose or intent.

Are you talking about what Japanese styles call "ippon-ken", and some kenpo schools call soemthing like "Eye of the Phoenix", or something?

    Gentlemen:
You both could very well be right about names and sources. What I've noticed is when you strike with the index knuckle you can immediately fold it back into a half fist and perform a double strike. The first strike is to the point followed by a half fist to the general area. It's similar to the concept of doing a "one inch" punch and rotating into a full vertical half fist. The full power of the half fist does not come into play until the finger is retracted to avoid knuckle damage of course!

I like how it opens the door. I've been having some encouraging results on the mak with it as well. Thanks again to Flying Crane for the Dita Jow!
