There are 12th degree black belts? When did the ceiling go up?

I don't know who this is. Does anyone have any background?

    Belt ranks vary by org.
Masaaki Hatsumi, GM of the Bujinkan for example used 15 dans, and has joked that he should increase it to 21 now.

Don't hold your breath. I'm sure it will start to pop up in the kenpo world as well. Just give it some time...

A couple of years ago there was a guy in Ireland who somehow got himself ranked an 11th in kenpo, I just looked at his website and now he is "only" claiming a 10th. A number of forums raked him over the coals at the time.

This is what I found online:

    Jan 2, 2007

GM CACOY CANETE RECIEVES 12TH DAN FROM
WORLD HEAD OF FAMILY SOKESHIP COUNCIL!

The committee of Masters and Grand Masters belonging to the WORLD HEAD OF FAMILY SOKESHIP COUNCIL, have all conferred together so as to make this very unique kind of presentation and award it to the legendary Filipino martial artist by the name of GM Ciriaco ‘Cacoy’ Canete.

He has been practicing the Filipino martial arts since 1924, and ever since this epic martial arts journey began, he has attained Black Belts in Eskrima,Jujitsu,
Aikido, Judo, Karate, he was an amateur boxer, and he has also competed in amateur wrestling tournaments as well.

The certificate was made for GM Cacoy Canete, and it was made out to the very unique rank of 12th Degree Black Belt, and the certificate was signed by all of the Masters, and the Grand masters on the committee for the world renowned,‘WORLD HEAD OF FAMILY SOKESHIP COUNCIL’.

The whole process started when Master Vince Palumbo of Australia, wrote to GM Frank Sanchez who is the President of WHFSC organization, and Master Palumbo asked if the committee at the WHFSC could issue an accreditation and acknowledgment GM Canete’s 80 years as a martial artist, and to award him the Rank of 12th Degree Black Belt with International recognition amongst all the WHFSC affilliates.

Master Vince Palumbo who lives in Adelaide of South Australia, has been a student of Grand Master Cacoy Canete for the last 20 years, and he has won 4 World Full Contact Stickfighting Titles.

The presentation of this fine certificate was then made at the Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima World Federation’s International Stickfighting Tournament which was held over 24th, 25th and 26th of November 2006, in Cebu City of the Philippines.

The official presentation of this unique and wonderful certificate, was made by Master Vince Palumbo and Master Anthony Kleeman who were both there as competitors at the International Stickfighting Tournament.

There were many Masters and Grand Masters present when the certificate was awarded to GM Ciriaco ‘Cacoy’ Canete at the Cebu Sports Colisseum in front of a capacity crowd of spectators and admirer’s of the Supreme Grand Master!

GM Cacoy Canete received a standing ovation, as Master Vince Palumbo read out a letter on behalf of GM Frank Sanchez and the WHFSC committee.

GM Cacoy Canete was then invited up on the stage to give a speech, and the healthy 88 year old warrior of the martial arts gave thanks to GM Frank Sanchez and all of the WHFSC committee!
