    Exclamation Okinawan Kempo Systems

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome any practitioners of Okinawan martial arts to the forum on KenpoTalk.
The Okinawan forum is dedicated to the learning, understanding and sharing of knowledge of the Okinawan Kempo systems.
If you're wondering, "What are the Okinawan Kempo systems?"
I have a small list of schools that i think are a good start.

    Shorin Ryu (and all sub-systems)
    Uechi Ryu
    RyuTe®
    RyuKyu Kempo
    GoJu Ryu
    Shito Ryu (and sub-systems)

I studied both Shudokan Karate and Okinawan Kempo Ju Jutsu. The system I know teach is called American Kempo Ju Jutsu. It is still is Okinwan Kempo, but with some American flair. My instructor was a student of Seiyu Oyata, back in the early 80's.

I studied what was functionally a blend of Shito Ryu (via the Mabune - Teruo Hayashi line) and Shuri-te (via the Fusei Kise line). Contained within this was much tuite and dissection of the kata.

In 2000, I began American Kenpo under Mike Pick, and have remained there since.

I have studied Ryukyu Kempo for the last seven years. The Ryukyu Kempo I study is a combination of kata common to all Okinawan Kempo systems such as, naihanchi 1-3, pinan 1-5, sanchin, et cetera (no need to name all twenty or more kata). It also includes Okinawan White Crane which is largely the Chinese crane systems as taught byGo Ken Ki, and The Kumemura Families in Okinawa. Lastly, the Ryukyu Kempo I study includes Chinese hand trapping and flow drills along with energy work.

In all of these systems we stress body positioning, flow, quick finishes, and especially focus on nerve work. Kyusho-jitsu is the included in most all we do since it makes most every movement easier, and applifies the effects.

I'm interested in most all martial arts. Of the students I teach now at a college karate club some study Tracy's Kempo, others JKD or TKD, and they're all great. I love swapping moves with them since we all learn from one another, and it's always nice to see different theories to common attacks.
