Default Origins of Martial Arts Styles and Their Myths

Martial arts styles all come from somewhere, and i think more often than not many old styles from japan and china seem to come from dreams and mythical characters imparting ancient wisdom.

Let's see if we can get a list of how certain martial schools came by their "secret" knowledge.

    Hi,

I believe it is the way of the ancients to give credit to the gods. It was much safer to say that than tell someone you made it up.
If you look at the culture it originated in, to be humble was the answer.

To say I watched the fighting crane and snake and put the two together and came up with a fighting art. That was not accepted by many. If you will remember some of the best arts are from persons who yielded and did not try to overpower, allow the opponets power to do the job.

That does not always work in a real situation, if it did you would see more of it in the Ultimate fighting scene. But do not get me wrong angles are very good defensive moves. To attack is not always the best move.
Especially in a country prone to Lawyer, Attorney, Barrister, looking for a
    client.

Much of the Martial Art has to do with staying in shape, proper diet, responsibility for ones action, being able to take care of ones self, trickery, awareness etc.. If you understand the Buddha, you are pretty aware.

I don't believe you will get many persons to try and explain where the art they study came from. Most don't know history much further than their own teacher. Sad but true...

    Regards, Gary

this is very true......there are many systems out there that have foggy pasts. in the course of my reading i have discovered more than a few "legit" systems that were discovered in dreams or by falsifying info to make it sound a bit more appealing.
