Default What is your favorite kata

This is for all our Japanese Kempo practioners. What is your favorite kata? And Why?

My favorite Kata usually changes based on what I'm getting from it at the time.
A few months ago my favorite was Empi. Before that Junni Ippon. Before that Pinan Shodan. Before that Naihanchi. Before that....

Right now I prefer Miyama Shodan. Great for practicing moving from the hips in a very flowing manner. Good moves for close range fighting. Good developing subtle movement.

Thumbs up Re: What is your favorite kata

I like katas But after seeing Pat kelly Senseo do kata and then break down every movement (10 TIMES ) PER MOVEMENT and then show application to this into what ever he wanted no matter how he was attacked ( and I mean attacked not a walk threw) was just mind blowing. just showing me after 20 years of training I still know nothing... Well you all know what I mean. But as far as my kata I like it is Neko Buto shodan for now and has been for a while...

Kusanku, Chinto, Naihanchi 1,2,3...The moves in any of these listed Kata are all you need for Kumite or reality fighting. I practice these Kata as they were taught...ie. with grace and power, but I also practice the Kata with the application in mind. This makes flow of the Kata change to match how I see the attack coming.
