Maybe this is just Hanshi moving his teaching into the new millennium.

I will say this, Hanshi is and has always been very open about taking calls to answer questions about training, etc.

I think maybe it will be a good supplement to those that are beginning students in Kosho that also study at a dojo regularly.......but I dont think it would help a new student without any prior training.

Personally I'm not against the idea of video training. I think that they can make a good supplement for students that may learn at a different speed or in different ways. It's a heckuva good reference.

What bothers me is the groups that award rank via distance learning. Unless I missed it, I was not under the impression that Hanshi was doing that.

I think you always need an instructor available to go to to check your work.

Absolutely. Videos make for great reference and review but, they cannot replace a good instructor.

Correct, but a properly structured distance learning program with a good instructor can replace a poor insturctor who teaches face-to-face.

To which the answer must be; find a good teacher. Useless for a beginner. For an ADVANCED student of the martial arts, who wishes to expand their knowledge, either to increase their own skills and understanding or to prepare against a practitioner of that art, it may be very useful indeed. (for which reason I would be very wary of producing a video which shows a potential enemy what techniques you intend to employ!)
PS. Unless, of course, these are not the actual techniques you will be using, a wise master always keeps something from his students.

Hanshi Juchnik's curriculum is based on teaching by principle rather than a group of techniques for each belt level.
This is a good medium for someone that has been studying this art for awhile, but for a beginning martial arts student, I think it would be a bit confusing because they wouldnt know what they were looking for or at.
