Good question, I have not seen them on. I live in Orange County and although there are fires still burning I think they have some pretty good control down there.
I am very worried about my friends Dianhsuhe (Jamie Gibson) and Grandmaster Sam kuoha and his people in the San Diego area with all the fires. Has anyone heard from any of them? I am sure we would all be interested in hearing if they are all right. I have not been able to contact Jamie. We corespond regularly. Would appreciate any news.

Greetings Sifu!
I apologize for not popping in sooner. My wife and I were forced to evacuate Sunday 10/21 but our home survived. The fire got within 50 feet of our house. Our entire town was forced to evacuate (40,000 people) last Sunday night---I snuck back to town last Tuesday to look after my horses that were trapped on the other side of town (A fun adventure story for another post maybe) - We just got our electricity back yesterday afternoon and while we have water finally, it is not safe to drink yet...
Grandmaster Kuoha is also fine as he was just out of the area of evacuations- He was ready to go though if need be. I stopped by his house before I snuck back to town and he gave me clean clothes to wear and a shower...Kara-Ho is a family and I am soo thankful to be a part of it.
I have a couple friends who lost their homes and as you folks may know the Witch Creek fire (that started a couple miles from me) burned 200,000 acres and with the other fires in San Diego county nearly 750,000 people were REQUIRED to evacuate.
I was here for the Cedar fire in 2003 which was awful but I have never seen soo much hard work by our Firefighters, Police Officers, National Guard and volunteers. Looks like a war zone in some areas though---
I have teared up more than once while driving across town looking at the "Rubble" and the Red-Cross shelters with the line for food and water.
Count your blessing folks, I know I am-

I'm glad you're safe. We had five engines down there, a couple of them on the Witch fire. I just got back from a four day assignment at Lake Arrowhead. Not good, but nothing like what you had to go through in San Diego.
Be careful what you say, some may take it the wrong way.
Glad to hear you are safe and well.

Wow...glad you're okay and your house survived.
I hope everyone in that area is taking precautions to stay safe. You can replace material things but you can't replace a life.
Take care & stay safe!

I am glad to hear that you are alright! Also glad that your house survived the ordeal. I know that it must have been quite nerve racking and being without the things that we normally take for granted can be quite trying.
I was stationed at El Toro during the 2003 fires. One of which came within feet of the gates on the base. Everyone on the base suddenly became volunteer firefighters for a few days. We were running all over southern California helping to put out the worst of the fires as they sprang up. It is amazing what can be accomplished when everyone comes together for a common cause. I was also there during the riots in LA and we became volunteer security for that to "contain" the riots from spreading outside the area it had already hit. I also was there for two earthquakes both of which originated in the 29 Palms area but were felt all the way down in the southern California area. I have to admit being stationed in California proved to be quite an adventure even in peace time.
Keep your chin up and hope things get back to their comfortable norm soon.

Sifuroy- This is one of the many reasons that I call kenpotalk my on-line home. People who actually care about one another even though many of us have never met or broke bread---Folks are treated with kindness and respect and when I read well-wishes I can be sure they are sincere
Take care everyone and thanks again for your concern!

I would like to thank you all for all your concerns, prayers and well wishes that you have all shown over this past week. Tho' we were on volunteer evacuation...we decided to wait it out untill it was absolutely necessary for us to get out of Dodge. My place has just about finsihed after the big 2003 Cedar Fires where my property was destroyed at least half of it, and I certainly did not want to go through this again. My heart goes out to many of my fellow San Diegans who have losts their homes and everything they own and I know exactly what they are going through. I have donated my time to help with the rebuilding again and yesterday spent some time at the center for FEMA and assistance group to help in some small way to put people's lives back together again. I am making my home open to some that were victims that do not have anywhere to go for Thangsgiving Dinner for them and their families. It is times like this that we tend to do our part as Americans.
