    Default Armchair Kenpo

    Dear Kenpo brothers and sisters:

How many of you do Kenpo hand movements while sitting watching TV or in other places than the dojo?

Last night I was sitting in my easy chair doing hand movements while I was watching re-runs of "The Soprano's". I was practicing a palm heel punch bypass followed up with a corkscrew eyestrike with the lead hand. Today I was able to try out my technique on a brother MA, without poking out his eye of course!, and it worked out great. I wonder how many of you do kenpo in "diverse" places.

I find myself practicing moves EVERYWHERE. Sitting at my desk at work, while watching t.v. in an easychair, and sometimes even when I am not alone around non-martial artists. They usually get a snicker out of it and say things like "you are totally strange." But I don't mind them and just keep on doing it.

I do it all the time. Maybe start with a bit of Aikido then over to some Ju-Jitsu then a bit of Kenpo then for good measures a bit of BJJ. I do this all the time and people at work just give that look like what is wrong with him... I tend to do the hand movements more in publics places like the mall. It tends to happen when I'm held captive while my wife shopping and I'm just trying to get to my happy place...

Have to admit my kids occasionally call me a weirdo because of this habit.

The worst (or best) is when you don't even realise your doing it until someone looks at you funny.

When my wife and I are preparing dinner or doing stuff around the house I sometimes drop into a fighting stance. She sees this as a queue to see if she can successfully smack me in the head, kick me in the rear, or jab me in the midsection. Its all in fun of course but I get to practice my blocks...she's pretty quick !!!

Not exactly armchair but along the same lines.

    Brother, I do Kenpo all over the place. I have no shame...in Targer...in Kroger...it doesn't matter. ]

I open the 'fridge by goiing into a rear twist stance and grabbing the handle of the door, then I unwind into a bow thereby opening the door. I then transition into a front cross and grab a beer before closing the door and covering out....LOL

I'll sometimes be in my office working and have a thought about a kenpo technique and then stop in the middle of what I'm doing and perform some hand movements....

We kenpo-addicts are a strange bunch to outsiders. LOL

...Besides in our training twice a week, I used to bang my arms against street sign poles, stair rails, door jambs, any metal pipes, etc. whenever passing these immovable objects. It can be addicting...I got a couple of co-workers doing that...even though they don't train in martial arts, they seem to like the challenge of banging arms with me but only for a very short time though...

Being "centered" physically and with awareness and "intention", in my world, are Kenpo rules to live by.

    Even while watching television.
