He doesn't move like he use too, due to injuries. Still I wouldn't want to get hit by him.

I was curious to know if that was it...He looked stiff...Like he was in pain, or something...

Knee and Hip Replacements If I remember correctly, David "ParkerKarate" will definitely know more than I. That's his instructor.

I guess I was one of the guys who "slammed" him on MT. I didn't ask that he kick the guy in the head, I just want him to do quickly what he is describing slowly. If I use the example of Flashing Wings, he doesn't do either of the final two checks (knee, left hand to right arm) that he then describes. I still haven't got an answer why he slaps his butt twice when he demonstrates that tech fast.

Look, if you are going to put on video of yourself, then you are subjecting yourself to criticism. This isn't a demo in a tournament where things can go wrong and you can blow a tech, this is an instructional series, where he could have refilmed if the execution wasn't there.

My kenpo certainly isn't perfect, but if I put vids out there, I would expect criticism. Does having 30+ years in the art exempt you from that?

Looked like he was using "slap checks" on Flashing Wings when hit his hip, there.

If you are going to claim that you are a tenth black, you have to bring more to the table than what was demonstrated in those video clips. Just more watered down Kenpo with stone dummies.

Not so much. I agree, to a point. But, I think the fact the guy is up and moving after so many surgeries is amazing. And I don't say that to take away from his skill. He did in fact point out moves he was doing slowly that he didn't do at "speed". That was his way of showing what is possible and what should be considered.

There is a difference between being able to do and being able to teach. He may not be able to DO what he once could but that has no bearing on his ability to teach others. The issue is that many learn by mimicking what their teacher does instead of listening to what their teacher tells them to do.

Being that I've had a couple of orthopedic surgeries myself, I can definatley empathize with Mr. Palanzo.

I've heard some argument about his execution, but none regarding the actual instruction. His teaching ability and knowledge appear to be excellent.

I like the idea and applaude him for being an innovator and trying out a new idea. As with anyting "new" there will be those that resist change and react by attacking it.

To play "devils advocate" a little, I do think that if he was unable to demonstrate the technique in the manner he instructs, or per text book, that he may have considered using a high ranking student to demonstrate as he instructed.

Anyway, props to Joe Palanzo! I salute you sir!

Elastic recoil. The only people I see using that is the Orange belts and above in the AKKI, and tenth degree Black Belts. Look at Mills, Tatum, Chapel, and SGM Parker-they are not hitting themselves to make their tech's "sound cool".
Think about moving your weapon through a path (universal pattern) and not to a target. Then use your own body to redirect the weapon once it has cleared that path.

Bang. Nail on the head right there. Are people watching, listening or both. Many are just watching.

Personally I don't care what someone looks like. It matters to me what they can teach me.
