    Default Challenge 1/1/07

    Start 2007 off right!

I challenge each person to practice 1 hour today. It doesn't matter what's planned, or what else you have on your "to-do" list, I challenge you to find one itsy-weensy-tiny-hour in a day full of 24 of them....and practice.

    Have a good work out!

Got up and went through basics, forms and techniques. It was tough with the school closed down for the week until tomorrow, but I wanted to get through it today...

I'll take ya up on that challenge (since I do it anyways, it makes it a rather easy challenge to take.)

Would that be every day, or an average over a week? That I can do!

I voted "No...I had a new video game that needed playin' ", because it was the closest thing to "I had something else to do."

Don't play video games, unless you count Minesweeper and Hearts. But I'm helping my son move today, and my neck is going to be bad enough without working out on top of it.

I did not practice at midnight last night and it's only 9:30am here, so I haven't practiced yet. We were talking about kenpo some around midnight. Does that count?

I AM on a kenpo forum. Does that count?

I may grab the weights and do some blocks for a bit in a little while.

    That's gotta count.

I took your challenge. I fired up my vcr and popped in sophisticated basics one and two and worked on my stances and parries mainly.

Its been a while since I've watched them last and it was great for the refresher. Thanks CC

On a side note. I've never really noticed this before but Mr Parker looks really ill in this series. Its kinda eerie. Since this was one of his last times on tape and all

Okay, I did it. I spent an hour on my part in a 2 man broadsword set. It wasn't kenpo, but it was a kick.

I did it, and ended up getting all sweaty. Thanks a lot, CC.

Mine was fifteen minutes each of basics, kata, techniques, and visualizing and responding to random attacks.

On to the new video game that needs playin'. And some tater chips.

There is something i wanted to mention. In my days of Aikido training we would train through new years. We would start training at about 11:30 pm until 12:30 AM. It was called Hatsu Geiko or First Training. This was always something to look forward to. After the training there would be a pot luck party. It was always a great time and awesome way to welcome in the new year. Just curious to see if anyone else in thier training ran across this.

Nope, but it sounds like an awesome idea! Next year I'll have to see about decorating the dojo and having a New Years Bash...literally. LOL.

Congratulations to everyone that got in a work out!

It's easy to get bogged down with responsibilities and side tracked with other priorities. We all have lives outside of Kenpo (some of us do anyway ). But it's important to make some time to practice as well. I just wanted everyone to start their new year off on the right foot!

Now that I'm done practicing......back to "Guitar Hero II"!!! Man...that's a fun game!

    Great idea CC.

1 hour isn't very long, but could you imagine how much everyone would improve by doing so?

It really is a great time. I think I'll bring it up with my instructor. It really ends up being a great way to involve your family with your peers at classs.

Well... not sure if this counts... but I did welcome in the New Years with some standing meditation...

While the rest of the restaurant was inside sipping champagne... I snuck out back and enjoyed the silence...

Yesterday I slept most of the day... as I didn't get in from work until almost 3am... so no workout... and I work 5-10 today... so I'll prpbably skip today also...

The way I see it... I've worked pretty hard over the past few months with getting back into the "swing" of things (no pun intended... OK, maybe a small one)... so, I'm taking a few days off to reward myself...

Kudos to all who took CC up on his challenge... maybe I'll be a late entry in a day or two!

I managed to squeeze in a little bit of practice (just over an hour) while in Yosemite. It's all about having a room with plenty of floorspace...

I spent an hour yesterday working on basics, and helping my son who's training with me on his stances and transitions.

Got a huge grin from my wife today as she watched me working on form after I got dressed for work...she seems to think it's funny seeing me do it in business casual instead of in a gi!

Have you tried it in your boxers yet? That usually gets a good response in my experience. LOL
