Since it was a make up test, I missed due to my shoulder a moth ago. I was able to see some of the higher ranks test with me. In our school between green and Brown we have 3 red belt ranks. I was able to watch the 2nd red belts test and all I can say is WOW. I am very motivated after watching how they tend to move. And the techniques they were doing I can’t wait to learn. I know it’s a process and I fully understand that it takes time but, I ‘m still chomping at the bit.

The sequence is the same I think as most EPAK, schools W-Ad, W Y-Ad, Y O-Ad, O Purple Ad P Blue-Ad B Green Ad G then we have Red, 1st Red 2nd Red Brown 1st Brown 2nd Brown Provisional Black 6 months then 1st Black

Congradulations on your recent promotion!! I really like learning about other styles so, I hope you don't mind if I ask you about yours. What style do you practice? I didn't know there was that much difference in the belt systems in other styles of kenpo. I am learning American (Parker), we have 24 techniques per belt. The belts are: white, yellow, orange, purple, blue, green, 3rd brown, 2nd brown, 1st brown, 1st black...etc.

I’m learning Mr. Parkers American Kenpo. My instructor is not affiliated with any organization. The school I attend seems to be a rotating system. We have four phases each a year long (unless you fail a test). Each phase is divided into semesters 6 per year each 8 weeks long. Each semester we generally learn four new techniques, and either a set or a form some times both and that has us testing about every two months for a new belt. I guess that works out to be 8 techs and two forms or sets per full belt color.

With the semester set up it works out so that you can enter the next phase at anytime as you will work your way back to where you started. For instance I started Phase 2 at semester 4. Now I am working on semester 6 I’ve been in phase two for going on seven months now. Time fly’s when you’re having fun.

I guess the extra belt colors the 3 red belts makes up for having less techniques per belt. Helps to spread them out a little.
