For me it is a toss up. I like long weapons like my bo, spear and oar, but I really like my yawara, and short stick and Kubaton.
    Quality outweighs quantity every time.

I have become a big fan of knives. I that would make me a short weapon person. The only two long weapons I know are the staff and the panther sword. THey are pretty cool but not one of my favorites.

I think I fall on both sides of the fence for this one.

Short range for me. I like the idea of being able to have them with me. Would you consider a cane short range? I love the cane and or knife as a weapon. We did some cane work in my prior Hapkido training. The only legal weapon you can carry anywhere.

    Salute,
I am still waiting for Mr. Joe to teach the cane to me. I think it can be use as aboth a short and long range weapon. You can use the handel as a short range weapon and the longer part (I don't know the name for it, maybe shaft) as a long range weapon.

I prefer shorter weapons, they are more interesting for me to use because they act as more natural extensions of the body/arms. With longer weapons (bastard sword, tachi/katana, spear, staff, etc) that natural relationship isn't there for me.

Thats the way I feel to. I feel more in control of the shorter weapons as well. There is less chance of error with shorter weapons.

I like short (stick or shorter) types of weapons, they seem more practical for my training. Not to say i would not run across a broomstick occasionally lol

Good points the same reason I enjoy the short range as well.

    Hey Martin,

I would say that depends how it is utilized (largo = long; corto = short).

Hmmmm ... I like both, but in the street against a guy with a knife, a 7' spear seems like the safest weapon, especially if you have learned to use it. I like a longer knife, like Chinese Saber or katana against a knife. Both people having had equal training, I think the big knife wins, not the folder.

But, the criminal laws in Texas preclude me carrying a spear or sword, so I have to be able to fight with sticks or short blades also.

Do you think its more of a mid-range though instead of long?
