    Default Kenpo titles

We had a discussion last night regarding the titles that are used in the Martial Arts for 1st black, 2nd black, etc. I know that there is Assistant Instructor, Head Instructor, Associate Professor etc. but how do these titles go by rank? I briefly looked thru Infinite Insights 1-5 but I did not see them. Does any one know what they are? Also I have heard other styles use Shodan, Godan, Yodan, Shien (sp) etc. how do those titles go by rank?

Shodan, nidan, sandan... is 1, 2, 3 dan in japanese. Yondan is forth. There are irregular conjugation for many things when combined with counters in japanese. hence 1st is shodan and not ichidan and 4th is yondan not shidan.

Japanese will often use Renshi, Kyoshi, and Hanshi as titles. Usually not used in talking with the person. Also not always directly tied to numerical rank. But, roughly 6th, 7th, and 8th dan rankings or at least a minimum requirement.

The list of titles for American Kenpo are found in Infinite Insights Book 2.
    Quality outweighs quantity every time.

Thanks Rob! I see it now on page 10. Like I said I just skimmed thru this last night after class.

    Thanks again,

We use Sempai for asst. instructors (usually Brown belts) Sensei up to 5th, Shihan for 5th and above-
The above is just my opinion.
