Improvement in my sparring is right at the top.

I went to sparring class on Friday and got punched in the nose. It's a shade of green and I'm none too pleased.

The next thing in line is get my second degree in Vegas in June.

Thirdly is to learn some arnis stick drills.

To reach purple belt next month and move into phase 2. I also need to work on muscle memory for all the tech’s I have learned. And the third thing in a long list would be to memorize the names of the techs.

Oh and get to 100 posts maybe I’ll get a belt promotion

Get my Pekiti contradas up to snuff.

Work on my sparring endurance, my technique is acceptable, but I don't feel like I've got enough in the tank after a couple of minutes.

What's a Pekiti Contradas? Is it a dance move? A body part? A foreign language?

Get the bleachers finished for the school. Finish building the second dressing room. Finish the seamless mat. Get really tight on my forms and techniques up through 3rd Black and hopefully test by Summer time.

Thats what I get for using FMA terminology on a kenpo board.

In Pekiti Tirsia Kali terms, a contrada is a counter (Spanish, contra = against) to your opponents move. In kenpo terms, the initial block and handword in Five Swords might be a contrada/counter. As would be the attacker then smothering the incoming handsword with their left hand, recovering their right hand and hitting you with something else.

In PTK you start doing these in different drills against bladed weapon attacks, then it becomes free play, where you and your partner are throwing counter for counter for counter etc. This is a very good way to make your entry lines and footwork instinctive. I'm on intermediate level contradas and I'm trying to make them as instinctive as my basic ones, so I just need to play with them alot more.

    Lamont

PS: Given the footwork, it would make for a pretty good turn on the dance floor.

    1. Finish the instructor course and start teaching
    2. Practice my prev belt stuff so I'm not cramming when it comes time for my brown belt test.
    3. Continue to be nicotine free.
This is how I wear my Kenpo suit. Still trying to learn how to put it on and it's a little wrinkled, but it is starting to feel pretty good on me.

Well, up until today, I had a short term goal list......now I still have that list, but a new #1!!

I broke one of my toes in two places today so.......

    (1) Heal the toe so I can get back to training!!
    (2) Continue to get into better shape
    (3) Continue to practice and re-learn some things in order to eventually test for my 2nd degree black belt.
    (4) Finish learning the rest of Long Form 6 (required along with Long 5 for 2nd degree)
    (5) Try not to be too depressed/discouraged by this newest set-back and keep stretching, moving so I am not completely out of it when I get the okay to train again.

Best wishes to everyone else on their personal goals.

    Kenpo:
    -get my 2nd-black in August
-general "fine-tuning" of basics and techniques

    Other:
-Get back into BJJ, my grappling/groundfighting is getting a little rusty
    -more knife work
-more "integrated combatives" work (getting your firearms, knife, and empty-hand training to complement each other so you have one seamless "system" rather than 3 separate skillsets)
The test: "Will this work so that I can use it instinctively in vital combat against an opponent who is determined to prevent me from doing so, and who is striving to eliminate me by fair means or foul?" ~ Col. Rex Applegate

This is such an important thing for martial artists, we should always be setting attainanble goals. so I have revived this thread so people can get their goals out there.

A short term goal of mine is to get in better habit of taking short "exercise breaks" at work, and to find some more mini-workouts that I can do.

I have a piece of rebar in my truck, I like to go outside and practice strikes with it once people leave the office. Recently its been a bit too icy for me to do that so I'm looking at what I can do indoors that wouldn't make me look too ridiculous if one of my night shift colleagues caught me doing it

This year, I'd like to improve my movement. Move with greater authority and certainty.

I'd like to go through the whole system with Dr. D and get it recorded on video.

I'd like to grow our school enough that we have at least 10 students in every class.

Get better with gun and knife defenses.

Maaaaaaybe get my third this year. Depends on whether I can coax Dr. Dave to Sacramento so I can get more regular lessons.
