    Default Various Associations

There are a number of different kenpo associations represented. I'd like to hear about what's involved in each one, what areas are represented, how to join, etc.

I'm a member of the LTKKA. I believe it's $25 a year to belong and when you join, you get a patch. When you renew, I think you're also added to the Larry Tatum Fan Club. Members are across the globe and if you are a member, you can test in front of Mr. Tatum.

    What about the other associations?

(Also, please chime in if you notice something has been omitted.)

Several associations have it against their by-laws for their members to be long to more than one group.
    Quality outweighs quantity every time.

I had that question too. I don't think the LTKKA objects to belonging to more than one association because some members of MLKKA also belong to the LTKKA.

I don't know if the reverse is true.

Okay, I'm retarded. I guess I meant that LTKKA would let you join if you belonged to other organizations, but others might not generally accept it. There might just be exceptions for certain people.

Like if you hit a certain rank, then you get membership or something.

You can join the EKKS and be a member of another organization. We're about sharing ideas and the art itself.

If the AKKS is Mr. Speakman's organization, then yes, it is still active. When he and John Sepulveda split, Mr. Sepulveda's new organization, the AKTS took some of the former AKKS schools with them. There has probably been a time of consolidation for both associations.

Can anybody find a link to the AKKS site or whatever Mr. Speakman might be calling it now?

It looks like Mr. Speakman uses www.jeffspeakman.com for the AKKS. He has a very interesting article he wrote regarding a trip he took to China.

Since I'm still pretty new here, I'm finding a lot of topics that have been posted a long time ago.
I just wanted to mention the AKKI. $25 a year and a real stripping away of what is useful and what is not. One of our greatest attributes is that Mr. Mills has arranged the tech and timing patterns into a curriculum that helps a beginner to be more effective and the advanced student to be a lot faster.
Also Mr. Mills has developed an awesome Club and Knife curriculum.

Looks like I misspoke. I didn't mean to say a "stripping away of what is useful"! I meant the say something like the Bruce Lee adage: "Absorb what is useful..."

That, of course, is your opinion. There are so many black belts in EPAK who disagree with the above, including myself.
