    Default Awareness in the community

Hey school owners and instructors! What sorts of things are you doing in your community if any to create awareness about the benefits of martial arts and self defense?

Nothing too recent I'm ashamed to say. But we have done free Rape Prevention Seminars before. We even did one for the Employees of the Federal Bankrupcy Courts.

    Hey Camey,

I just did a workshop yesterday for a group of sixth grade girls at a local Temple on awareness and self defense! They were awesome and really enjoyed it! I really love the interaction and the questions they have really drive the class.

I have another Women's Awareness & Self Defense Workshop scheduled this week and next week for a local library (this one will be around 4 hours in total, so we can cover a lot more). Giving these workshops is definitely one of my favorite things to do, I just love sharing this information with the women in the community. Of course, it greatly enhances my teaching skills as well!

    Peace,

    Donna

That's awesome. I'm really glad to hear it. Sounds like it's really fulfilling. I was working with my church to start a night of knowledge class on self defense, but they decided to change the format to strictly scriptural based classes and my idea went out the door. I'm thinking of doing some workshops at the community rec center though.

Go for it Camey! I'm sure you'll totally rock. Keep talking to people about it, look at churches, girl scouts (they actually have to earn a badge in this, so try to hook up with one of the local troops), rec centers, libraries. It really is fun!

Yep Susan, I didn't remember one either, but they have it now and they have to meet a bunch of requirements for it. The troop leader let me read through the material for the badge and it was very interesting to see how much they were required to know. What was really great with this troop when I returned the following year, the older girls were my assistants... great review for them. I was surprised by how much they remembered and they told me they would get together and practice during their meetings. I was very proud of these girls and grateful to be called back again year after year. I loved my own time as a girls scout, it holds a lot of fond memories for me.

    Peace,

    Donna
