    Default Xma?

What do you guys think of the XMA?
And have you all heard of Jody Sasaki? I just found his website last night and watched a few clips. The guy appeared on ESPN2 in 2004.

There was a really cool documentary about it on Discovery with Mike Chat. Mr Broad taped it for me. I think it is cool to watch for performance value and tournament use. Personally not for me. I like to hit things hard and watch them go owie

Jody Sasaki was a great competitor in his day, and the XMA stuff really took off with Mike Chat.

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I think it was simply a marketing ploy (a good one too) created to sell more stuff to little kids. Next thing you know they'll have Spider Man MA.

I would think it evolved into what it is by the demand for flashier, louder, and more aerail tournament tricks. Seems there is such a big division now tournament wise. Either go pure tradition to your art, or pure flash. Celtic hit it on the head. Just another way to squeeze a buck.

Actually XMA divisions at big tournaments usually cost more money than normal events to enter, because promoters have special prizes, that usually cost more than regular trophies.

I could see them luring in a crowd of people who want to see things like in the movies. Mr Broad, weren't you talking about once how it is pretty high in cost to have a legit "XMA" title at your school, like a certificate to teach it?

Why not thow a snowboard or skate board in while you're at it. LOL Could you imagine two guys in full gear on skateboards charging each other on ramps with kendo sticks. That would be awesome.

Century charges about $4000 US to buy the XMA package and curriculum materials. Really high price for something that will not bring in new student, or help you keep your existing students.

I don't know if buying the package really will produce some of these skills. Maybe some good stuff to help the base of your program for show effect. But if you haven;t been seriously training in aerial stunts and such, it would be interesting to see someone trying to grasp this as their primary art.

With all of these products there is a ton of info on presentation to your school, and how to market to the public and more importantly on how to get a price bump out your existing students.

I saw the show with Mike Chat awhile back... Interesting I thought-

He was an awesome performer back in the day, the Kama routine was incredible... He had strong basics too and back then there were not as many gymnastic moves, just vertical side kicks and stuff...

Jody Sasaki used to clean up in the "Self-Defense" division at many of the big tournaments. He would basically use 3 or more ukes and do some Amer. Kenpo techniques (I think), first slow then VERY fast- Now it is all choreographed stuff-

Wow I am rambling... I have never seen the XMA package, don't want to judge it without seeing but...

I am off to beautiful Tijuana tomorrow for our Seminar/Demo. you all have a great weekend and I will advise how it went if anybody seems interested!

    James
The above is just my opinion.
