    Default Worst injuries

What are some of the major MA injuries you've suffered or enjoyed (for the crazies)?

The worst of several for me was while working out with another BB dummying up for Shielding Hammer, COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL, reared back and got loads of travel with his elbow strike which he hit me right in the mouth on. My bottom teeth penetrated the skin beneath my lower lip. Wow - just wow. That one bled a lot... probably should have had stitches but I just left it. Funny... the other instructors saw it almost like it was in slow motion and they couldn't do a thing to stop it. Hehe... got a nice little scar to brag about.

Another nice one was when dummying up for Reversing Circles, we typically do either a stand up or take down version. I thought that my partner was going to do the takedown version and waited for him to apply the lock and throw me onto my back so I hesitated falling out of the technique and he roundhouse kicked me right in the face. Quite possibly a little blood spilled on that one.

So... what are some of your gnarley stories?

I have had a few, put a sword into my thighs. Stitches in my eyebrow from a hook punch, broken cup cutting me, dislocated shoulder a few times, countles broken noses, broken toes.

The most painful was tearing my hamstring trying to land a jump spinning hook kick into the splits.
    Quality outweighs quantity every time.

Just the edge of the thigh about 1.5 inches deep, when I missed my scabbard while trying to sheath sword. I didn't feel a thing until I felt the blood run down my leg, then the pain started.

The only things I've had happen are the normal kenpo injuries. Bit my own lip getting punched... tons of wonderful bruises... My worst so far is possibly fracturing my foot. That's about it.

Ouch! Foot injuries are underrated. Years ago, I ran 3 miles in a pair of really worn out sneakers and the next few days I went into class and OMG... trying to do front crossovers and front snap kicks were seriously painful... I hope you heal up soon.

I myself have been fortunate to have not had any major injuries, but I have witnessed and treated major injuries such as one guy had his Femer broken while dummying for an Orange belt tech. in AKKI. That was nasty.

Damage to a nerve in my leg, fractured ribs, lots of black eyes, meniscus issues with one of my knees, and my left rotater cuff isn't exactly being all that it can be. Lip punched? Bah, try lip meets sidekick (oh yeah, this was from tournament point fighting).:

The worst is one I've had is when my ribs got cracked during sparring and unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it. Man it really hurt to breathe for a few weeks...

Ripped some muscle at the base of my spine.. really more of a re-injury than anything else.. but it had me on my back for a bout a week with lots of muscle relaxers.

I seperated my ribs from my sternum attempting to throw someone who was a little too big. Instead of rolling with me he landed on my right ribcage from behind and pinned me in between him and the mat. I heard a pop and couldn't breath all that well. Had to go to the emergency room the next day. That was a whole other issue in itself.

First lesson...Shattered left hand (backfist drills)

multiple torn hamstrings 3rd degree tear.. Looks horrific and feels pretty bad too~!

Cellulitis (bacterial infection of the skin and underlying structures) resulting from being kicked in the shin.. that was more painful than any surgery or bone break I've ever endured~!! 5 days of IV antibiotics via a heparin lock.. though I still attended class albeit on crutches

3 broken fingers from blocking *stupidly with an open fist*

    many a jammed finger..

    broken toe and jammed toes

    Bruises galore..

I'm not going to list every injury (there's got to be limit to the number of words I can post, lol)

About a year ago I was having some serious issues with my feet. Hurt like hell all the time and would swell up like crazy. I couldn't even walk. I went to a specialist and after many tests I was told I had "Microfissures" in the tiny little bones of my feet. Basically, I had umpteen breaks in the bones of my feet from continuous impact while bare foot. I had to take 6 weeks off and wear special inserts until they healed up..... I guess I train too much.

I have had my front tooth knocked out 2 times in full-contact fighting, but that's really no big deal.

But the worst injury I had was about 10 years when I pulled my hamstring...ouch....I can still remember the feeling.
