Default How many instructors per class?

How many instructors and/or assistants do you all have in your classes?

I have between 8 and 10 adult students. No assistants.

It's pretty okay because they're all yellow but one white belt.

It would be great to have a green or brown belt helping.

How do you all have your classes set up?

Generally the head instructor and one other assisting. However on the thursday 7-8 class there usually seems to be 4 hanging around. It must be because of the 8-9 class immediately following.

That's not too bad unless they are of all different rank levels. Generally speaking we have a class of the same belt level OR one belt above or below within the same class. When this happens one instructor takes one of the groups in the 2nd room and they have their own class. Each class trains together in the beginning then split off for their own and brought back together towards the end of the class.

I agree. The best way to learn is to teach. I think at green level it is a good time to start an individual at that time. This way they have some teaching time in before brown.

I just told 'ya. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.

Usually 1 but sometimes 2. Depending on the class and number of people, Sempai will become an assistant.

For the pre school there are only three of us. For the kids class there are 3 or 4 and a brown belt helping. For the adults there are three of us with one helper. We usually warm them up together and than split them into groups.

We have more active BBs right now than we have ever had, so we are usually running 3 students to a BB right now.

The kids class has a higher ratio, probably 5:1 because many of the BBs can't make it in for that class. We've pulled in a couple blues to help out with managing the herd.

We try and maintain a ratio of one instructor for every four students, plus a couple of trainees. On average, I think we're probably closer to six to one, plus trainees. I teach morning classes and don't have any assistants. Sometimes I only have 2-3 students, and sometimes I have 12 with white to blue belts in the class. I usually get a BB jumping in to help me in those situations.

Clearly we need more upper belts at our school.

I'm crossing my fingers for 5 or 6 Blues, greens and brown belts moving from out of the area, having studied American Kenpo and who are dying to start at our school.

So far, it hasn't happened, but I'm still keeping a lookout.

    I'm an eternal optimist.

Wade Wilbourn, the school owner, is the head instructor and I am his assistant. We also have two brown belts that help out quite a bit.

I have one instructor/assistant instructor per 5 students.
