Early training on how to ensure compliance from males. Like any woman ever really needed help with that.

YOU ARE SOOOO RIGHT!!!!!!! When I was a yellow belt, we all surrounded a 1st degree brown belt and attacked him. He was doing a technique on the guy in front of him when I quickly attacked him from behind. He quickly (and very hard) launched a back kick and caught me in the groin. THANK GOD I was wearing my cup!!! Before then, I wore it occasionally. After that, I never left home without it!!!

THe bad thing about guys wearing a cup, I get so many bruises on my hand and knee hitting that darn thing I think to teach the guys that forget we make sure we are not gentle on them, they learn soon enough!

    Great clip!

It reminds me of my initiation into the Purple Triangle Club.

Wahahahaha!!!!! Fabulous! Wish I could say that I've never had to experience that. Your reaction, Brother John, was priceless.

In I believe 89 I was attending a Parker seminar at our school and was in the front row. I was a Uke for a couple of techniques. On one i particular (no I don't recall which one anymore) he struck my groin/cup and it gave a load clack. He said "Oh good your weraing a cup". I replied: "I heard you were coming sir, I wearing two". He got a good laugh out of that as did everyone else. FWIW He hit like a fast moving train.

This is mostly irrelevant, but I found it interesting...a former pro football player was talking on the radio here the other day, and mentioned off-hand that players don't wear cups.

Wha...??? I was shocked. The reason made sense though: In a helmet to cup collision, that cup can shatter. Those shattered edges are SHARP. I don't even want to think about the first guy who learned that lesson.

PS: In no way is this supposed to deter anyone from wearing a cup while training in the martial arts! Unless maybe your opponent is wearing a football helmet...

i dont think i would want to wear one during fotball either... its bad enough putting up with it in a technique line or sparing but imagine running the ball 20-50 yards full blast with a cup on forget it ill take a hit in the privates first..
