I was trained in the Kenpo line, that is:
All the students who show up on given night line up and the man or woman at the end faces the next in line with a specific technique and on it goes. Things can get really exciting.
My experience is tha attacks happen from different degrees of front side or back. SOOOOO
I train my student in the square, they are in the middle with a potential attacker front, back and both sides. They have a specific technique to use and never know from which direction the attack will come.
The idea for this came from Ed Parker when he was in Santa Cruz, California in 1987.

IMHO thats one of the most effect training drills for real life situations. It promotes explosive pressure and is great for conditioning the fear/adrenalin response.
