    Default Days a week?

How many days a week do you make it into the studio?

Do you go the full number of days that the school is open or is your attendence related to other sorts of life's demands?

(For those who are not beginners, how has your training varied over the years? Or has it?)

My attendance is based around other things in my life. I have a friend who is teaching my sons and I two nights a week at our home, and on Friday nights all of us go to a local dojo and train with a few other people from the area.

So, no sparring really on the Tue-Thu sessions...focus is on techniques, basics, and form.

Friday night is taught by someone else, and the focus then is either sparring or fighting techniques, and learning more about applying the basic concepts from a technique or basic. Usually followed by an hour or so of free-sparring or work on specific areas.

I go as often as the school is open; hopefully the work schedule will continue to cooperate...

I used to train every day it was open. I miss those days.

Now with life and such I get about 3 times per week in with my instructor.

Enough to digest and think about before the next lesson.

Currently I take two privates a week because I work nights so I'm generally not around when school is open.

I soemtimes take the saturday group class but whether I make it in is dependent on how late I work the night before.

Its not enought though. I want more.

I typically take just 1 or 2 days off per month maximum, so I am generally training 7 days per week.

I wish I had the time and discipline to train that often. Though I guess teaching is training too, so I get 3-4 days per week in. With the time I take at home to practice I would say I do something at least five days per week.

I make it to class three days a week, usually three hours a session (2 hours kenpo, 1 hour kali). I work on forms, basics, bagwork, or workout on my off days.

Here recently only about 3 days....used to be more. Hopefully, I'll get in more time when I get settled.

I try to make it in 4 days a week, but work often interferes and I only manage that once a month or so. I usually can make it in 3 times a week. In addition I spend a couple of hours or so on each weekend day working out at home. As everyone else has said, I wish it could be more, but hey -- gotta pay the bills and put food on the table.

When I first started training, 3 days a week. After my husband passed away I went 5 days a week, it helped me get through it...I had something to focus on.
Now, I go 4 days a week MWF and Saturday mornings. My kids are old enough they can stay home alone while I'm at class. I did just get a key to the dojo and there is always a corner of the mat I can use, even if there is another class going on...(though I will get called to help with the current class).
7 days a week I get on the elipticle for a half hour at home. For warm up I do all my sets and forms.

I teach twice a week and usually stay acouple more hours . I also work nights so I go into the school by myself as work permits . I have also been helping one of our students train for a fight by working as a sparring /conditioning partner as our schedule allows .

Depends on my work schedule, but between teaching and working out, I'm usually in the school about five days a week.

As far as my Kenpo training goes I drive an hour one way two days a week to train with my instructor. Each session is 4 and half to 5 hours. I also teach and train 6 days out of the week.

Your lessons are 4-5 hours? That's amazing. I'm assuming you do kenpo for a living?

And that you're not married and have no kids? lol.

    Hi Amy,

I do not teach kenpo for a living....yet....lol... I am training to be an instructor in Kenpo. I do teach Martial Arts full time specifically Combative Sciences. I was married at one time and I do have a son.

In the not too distant future I hope to be teaching Kenpo and my other martial arts classes.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

I train at Kenpo 4 days a week. Mostly teaching others.

I do other exercises daily (7 days a week). About 20 minutes.

Basic stretches, flexibility, chest, upper arms, thighs, and they I finish up with my Energy Drills.

At the club, 2 times a week for about 3-4 hrs. then a discussion at a coffee shop for another hour.

At home everyday, someway or another.
I wish we had our own club, we rent and have a schedule. I know my instructor would love a 24/7 hall or gym at our disposal

I've did a bit of thinking about this, and for the benefit of the normal student, working out 3 times a week is about max. That's attending classes.

Then if he can train at home daily (5 days a week) for 10-15 minutes, he will do just great.

5 10 minute work outs spaced over 7 days is much better than one workout of 3 hours, and then nothing else for 6 days.

World class athletes need a different training routine.
