    Default Where would I test?

This may be a silly question, but it is one I keep forgetting to ask my instructor. Where do I test? I am testing for orange soon. Will my instructor just do the test at his Dojo? I know this is a highly novice question, but I am a highly novice kenpoist. Hence, testing for orange belt.....LOL

    Thanks in advance!

    Nick

I would expect tat your instructor will tell you the where and when. Don't be afraid to ask, either your instructor or one of the senior people.

Most of the time, students are tested at the school, either in class or during a separate time set aside for testing (a Saturday).

Some schools don't have formal testing, but instead the instructor watches you and determines when you're ready.

Lower Belt testing is usually done at the Dojo at a special testing time. It could be done by your instructor or a higher ranking instructor.

In Black Belt tests there is usually a board of Black Belts and usually some high ranking ones there. You have to be ranked so many degrees above the rank you are promoting someone to. Usually They would have to be at least a 3rd degree Black belt to promote someone to first degree Black belt. This varies with different systems. In a Black belt test the whole board would review the test and discuss if the candidate has passed the requirements. The certificate would usually be signed by members of the promoting Board.

I hope this answers your question about testing.

    I am Most Respectfully,
    Sifuroy

    Nick,

Did you already post the details of your test?

And where did you end up testing?

Not all Kenpo systems have yellow belts, since it was added years later to the curriculum as an introductory course in many schools.
    Quality outweighs quantity every time.

Maybe yellow was awarded, rather than tested for. Or maybe their school skips yellow?

    Just a guess.

    Yep,

Back about 1978 I added in the following, between white and orange.

So it's now white, gold, yellow, red and orange.

It was done for beginning student's motivation.

It does work real well, making distinctions that would normally, in the old days, take up to a year, pass by rather quickly.

Two different types of educational motivational psychology.

    The stick and the carrot.

Belt ranks are the motivation of the reward system.
