Default How often do you practice??

How often do you have to practice??
How long do you have to practice for??

Being 40 yrs. old and having 2 kids, 2 dogs, and an active wife, I don't have very much free time so is this enough??

I go to class 3 times a week, sometimes 4.
I practice at home on Saturday or Sunday about an hour.
I try to practice at home one day during the week about 1/2 hour.
I also practice in my cubicle at work for about 15 to 20 min. during lunch.

Is this enough?? What do you think??
What have I learned from this???

Sounds like you're getting plenty of practice. With my hectic schedule and 4 kids, I'm lucky if I get to 3 days a week. Usually 2 times a week for 2 hours per session.

I don't specificly set aside practice time anymore, outside of prepping for my classes. However I have found that without consciously doing it, that Im always practicing. When I move past someone, I do brush blocks...I go by a wall corner sticking out, I do rhythmatic timing (really scrapes my knuckles there ^^*)...I do fingerwhips on the shower curtians...if I walk down a corridor, my arms are usually doing five swords, with some sort of continueous motion until I reach my destination....Its like I can't ever stay still

Now when someone catches me doing all that stuff, I usually have some 'splainin' to do Or I just get looked at weird. n_n

    Studio
Monday & Wednesday: 4-5 hours each,
Tuesday & Thursday: about 4 hours each,
    Friday: 1.5-2 hours
Saturday: if there's a seminar or special class.

I don't have a set practice time at home but I'm constantly doing tech's or parts of tech's around the house. Gotta grab a snack during commercial-break? got time for a couple of tech's. I also have a couple of ping-pong balls hanging from the ceiling (for practicing accuracy with knife or empty-hands) that I hit every time I walk past (explaining to people why I have ping-pong balls hanging from the ceiling is always interesting )

I attend my classes during the week, but I'm the same I do techs every where I go, at work, in elevators, going down stairs to get something out of the freezer I'll do a form or set while I'm down there. I try to do something ,techs, forms or sets everyday, before work and after. For me I feel this is a must so I can keep my skills up,and as I'm getting older I seem to forget things, so I must practice daily. Thats if I remember to,Ha Ha

I usually train 7 days per week, approximately 2 to 3 hours per day, although I periodically take Sundays off if I am tired or my body is sore.

I got the idea from an instructor....it makes a nice sound when you do it ^_____^ But its not something I do often, as I don't exactly want to replace it anytime soon

Late reply to this dead thread, but reading the responses I really didn't see something I thought I would have.

Quality of practice is by far more important to quantity of hours.

Hi, I agree with you but if you don't do the amount of rep's or keep at it on a schedule of at least 3 times a week for a couple of hours you will not keep in shape.

I believe staying in shape is better than doing katas very slow, like I see quite a bit of people do.

I try to train on my own some every day. Can't really give an exact # to it, but I do as much as I can.

Depends on how my classes fall each quarter.

I usually get up daily at 5AM and do cardio, calisthenics, and review material for 3rd Black....then it's off to work (which is where I do most of my posting, lol.)

This quarter I have college classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday, so I am teaching Kenpo on Monday and Wensday nights and Friday mornings (nights too if there is a test.) The days I have Kenpo, I practice for about 2 hours before class...reviewing forms, techniques, basics. Otherwise..I'm hitting the books.

Of course...this will change again in about 2 months! DOH! Oh well, constant change keeps me on my toes. LOL.
