    Question Common Thread

Has anyone noticed a common trait among us Kenpo practitioners?
    What I'm asking is.....
If you put all the Kenpo people together, would you notice anything?
I've noticed that a lot of Kenpo people (me included) are slightly shorter than the average, but are there other traits like, younger, faster, outgoing, smarter, more aggressive, thinner, blonde, attractive, naturally talented, naturally good with our hands, etc.... (of course this could also mean the opposite of the examples above)......

Is there anything common to us Kenpo practitioners or are we all just a mixed Bag'O'nuts.

    What do you think??
What have I learned from this???

I notice that kenpo people stand up straighter.

I've looked at other martial artists, as well as the population in general, and we stand up straighter.

I think we're also more comfortable in our bodies than the average person.

Since we are constantly being aware of our bodies and what they are doing, I think we are just more comfortable than average.

    Thanks.

I would say that we are a friendly bunch of people. I differ on the height though. I am 6' 2" 205lbs and I wear a size 13 shoe so I guess I am the odd ball.

I think true "Kenpoist" are open minded and willing to hear others out. They genuinely have a thirst for knowledge and are willing to test things out before discarding them as useless whereas other arts state they are the best and close themselves off refusing to even entertain the thought that what somebody else does might be better. Which is kinda funny, 'cause it is our willingness to learn that indeed makes us better! ROFL.

I'm 6'0, 225 lbs. I ain't blonde...and I definately ain't pretty! I do think I have pretty good agility for a guy in his mid 30's though I'm not near as fast as I was when I was a teenager playing middle linebacker for the highschool football team! I know Bonecracker is 6"3 and around 300 lbs and people are amazed at how quick and graceful he can be.

I am quite possibly one of the biggest Sci-Fi/Fantasy nerds to ever walk the planet..a lot of us seem to be into that too...goes with the intelligent part I think. But then again..I'm biased in regards to this. LOL. Oh, and a lot of us are closet Pro-Wrestlin' fans too...you know who you are..

I think we all share a love of the art, a desire to see it evolve, a thirst to learn more, common sense (Kenpo is all about common sense), and a willingness to help each other out. I was told early on that I could go to any Kenpo school anywhere in the world and be embraced as a "brother." It's bizare really...because any other art that splintered as much as ours has would surely perish because of it...yet ours flourished because of it. I think it's because we recognize that each individual has their own way of expressing themselves through the art (tailoring) and we accept that we can learn from others perspectives. We are not confined to "doing it" one way. There is no "right". There is no "wrong." There is only what works and what does not based on scientific principle which anyone can apply regardless of their gender, size, strength, or age. It's a beautiful thing... "sniff"

    I'd agree we're a friendly bunch...cause I'm 6'1" and 210 with an 11.5W shoe. we can be odd together.

most definitely don't adhere to the thinner, smarter, more attractive, blonde parts though.

we definitely have family values...the Manson family...but family none the less!
See, all I've gotta do is get loose like I'm fluid, dude, Rollin' up my sleeves on my gi and get into it. You and who, him and them? Line up in a single file. One on one, all for one...end up in a bigger pile. The ambiance of Martial Arts is constant, Nunchucks chuckin' when I step in the mosh pit. Wing Chun dummy getting splintered apart, Escrima sticks whippin' and I'm chipping the bark. What are you? A pink belt? I'll give you a head start. Kumite killin', with the spirit of Ed Parker.

Well I guess I dont quite fit the cookie cuter, Im 6 foot tall but the only way I am going to be 210 is if I pick up a bag of feed. I have been 160 for as long as I can remember but since I started this job 5 years ago I went from a 28 waist to a 33, have brown hair and eyes not blonde and blue. I am a SI-FI fan but I also love The Science channel and Discovery. I was a wrestling fan (this will date me bad) back when The Junk yard dog, One Man Gang, Ice Man, The Vonerics were around.

I'm 5'6" and about 155lbs. Athletic type build I guess. Chronuss has a different description but don't listen to him . I'm quite open minded and love to train in all arts.

    I'm not a sci-fi fan. I just don't get into it.

This is going to sound bad but I'll write it anyway.

There seems to be a trend among high-ranking kenpo black belts to gain a truck-load of weight around their bellies, especially from one degree to another.

What ever happened to PHYSICAL CONDITIONING?

I guess everyone wants to be like Parker.

And you're not the only one to notice that trend.

I'd give Darryl endless grief if he did that.

Its due to the large coincedence of belt promotions taking place at buffets.
