Default How far do you travel to class??

How far do you travel to study AKKI Kenpo ??

I ask this because here in the UK American Kenpo schoolsare hard to find. My journey's will be at least 120 mile round trip to each class while working away from home or 600 mile round trip from home.

I have suggested to "She who must be obeyed!!" that we could move 300 miles to be near to the chief Instructor. Am I being unreasonable??

I used to travel 50 miles round trip to study kenpo. With my gas guzzler of a truck, the gas was just killing me. So now, I study mantis kung fu which is just 2 miles down the road.

5 minute drive for me. But for BJJ, it's about a 50 minute drive one way.

155 Mile round trip, twice per week. But, I'd travel another 50 miles if it meant getting the quality of training that I'm getting.

Between 100-130 miles per week here. Our classes rotate locations.

It's amazing how far we will travel and how much we will invest into this art. My girl was just complaining to me last week that I'm a cheapskate... except when it comes to karate. I couldn't rebutt because I had just plopped down $120 for my son and I to enter a tournament this past Sunday.

But anyway, my regular class is 16 miles round trip. If I have time to go to the adult sparring class at my son's school in Long Beach, that's about a 40 mile round trip. But these will increase early next year when I move to Corona (about 45 miles east of LA), I'll be travelling about 120 miles for my class and about 95 miles for my son's school.

It's only about 15 miles from work, but then it's about 25 back home.

I'm toying with driving to Atlanta once a week which is about 85 miles one way to train BJJ with a fellow from Brazil that came up with the Gracies. Still on the fence about that...especially with gas prices hitting over $3 a gallon.

One of my instructors made quite a few trips from Vegas to Wyoming-burning out some engines on the way. He never let distance come in between himself and his growth in Kenpo. That is not only dedication to the art, but to his instuctor.

I just walk to the door and open it and am in class. No Gas at all. None of our students are very far away.

I'm only 15 minutes down the road from my school. But I also moved back into the area for several reasons and the school was one of them.

When I was a more active student, I used to drive 90 miles south to get to class. So 180miles round trip. Money troubles suck.

I've got it lucky. All 3 locations I attend are just minutes from work or home! I have considered driving across town abou 60 miles round trip to train with a fantastic San Soo instructor. Traffic and class times don't match up with my schedule.

Daffy, fighting with his $1.25 quarter staff : "Ho! Haha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!" (quarter staff bounces off log, bending his beak. He straightens it back to normal, and starts speaking to himself) "Something's amiss here... hmm, let me run through it. Ho, haha, guard, turn, parry, dodge, spin, ha, thrust." (beak bends again) "Got it." (straightens beak, and starts his fighting moves again.) "Ho! Haha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin!"

Roundtrip tickets to Salt lake City from Orlando? $475 (2150 miles)
Rental car for three days? $170
    Motel for two nights? $150
