Default the best laid plans of mice and men....

    OFTEN go awry...

Hey everyone. Long time no read?? Ha!!!

As some of you know, I'd had big plans to make it to the Vegas Camp last week. I was really looking forward to it too! Had the plane tickets....etc. etc.

But then, I blew a gut. Literally. I had a hernia and had to have an operation. I'm much better now! Still tender, but the majority of the pain's gone and I'm up & about Much more now. Just got cleared by the surgeon yesterday to return to work this coming Saturday.........which is a huge (monetary) relief!! But, according to the doctor, I've GOT to try to take it easy and he doesn't want me to be "Taking hits" for a little bit. (((...and as many of you know my Best Friend and Kenpo partner Brian "Bam-Bam / Look at my boo-boos" Hunter does like to both give and receive some hard hits.)))

I've been DOWN!! Seriously. Missed the camp...which is WAY long overdue for me!! Missing class at the school...etc. But I also got to feeling pretty darn sorry for myself.....which doesn't do me ANY good. I let myself get way low. But people were there for me. Reminds me of what Mr. Mills says about keeping your dreams alive and they'll do the same for you. I got so into licking my wounds and feeling like "woe is John" that I stopped nurturing my dream and let myself get into an emotional slump.
BUT: Then Brian comes back from Vegas ON FIRE!!!! Loving what we do in the AKKI about 200% more than he did the day he left Oz for the city of Lost Wages. ...and his fire has given me a Great lift!!! SO....I'm simply back at it. Not yet taking those hits, but I am doing the techs/sets/forms...etc. Having fun!! I owe a great deal of it (getting over my own "woe is me" crap/depression) to three great guys.... my Brother Brian, who's constant state of "CAN DO" attitude is an inspiration! and I owe a great deal to Mr. John Connolly and Mr. Alan Jacob ....who's encouragement, support, help and most of all EXAMPLE are just as inspiring. I'd be lost without these three guys in my corner.......but they ARE in my corner.
SO-- I'm back at it, doin my thing, and more than appreciative of the guys who're backing me up.

    Thank you guys!!!

....I'll see you ALL in the Spring! (My tickets are already 1/2 paid for, and I'll be able to both give and Take by then)

Your BROTHER (and Darn Proud of it!)

    Hi

Did they wire you up or just a patch? Glad to hear you are all right.

I have to go get my throat checked out, I was grappling and it got hurt and then I let Gene Le Bell choke me out to get a patch. Not the brightest thing to do. Dr just shook his head. LOL I have been going to him for 10+ and he knows of injuries from horses (animal) to grappling etc.

He pointed out to me that as you get older you are supposed to stop the horse play. He hinted smarter also but??? Well I sold them and retired now I do some small jobs and lots of MA.

Been to numerous seminars and go about 5 times a week to the Dojo. Will be going to the gathering this week end in Reno looking forward to it.

Hope the new configuration of the board is going to work out.

ye ole hernia. The most performed surgery maybe? I got the patch/mesh. I believe it is also known as the lichenstein method lol. No problems after 6 years. I gave up my beloved deadlifts though. Mentally, I was just reluctant to do pulls past a certain weight. Too many phantom twitches. My surgeon gave me the same guarantee as a mechanic did when I got a tire patched one time- Good till I get off the lot. Get better!

Ouch, sorry to hear about that, never a pleasant experience and bad timing to boot. I'm glad to hear that you are recovering well and wish you the best on the remainder of your recovery.

Ouch! That sounds painful; sorry to hear you missed your camp. Glad your surgery went well, that you had your friends to help you get motivated, & that you are "back at it" again. Please take care of yourself, Sir!

How is your recovery going? Are you now back to your usual level of training?

    Yes and no.
    BTW: Thanks for asking/caring.

Yes: in that I am up and moving.
No: in that I can't take pretty much ANY lower-torso shots for a bit. Also: and I'm sorry if this is way too graphic here, but ...there's certain complications due to where scars are and such that doesn't allow me to employ my ...."male protector" (Cup)...so there's that to consider as well.

But, in a month or two things should be much closer to normal!
    Thanks
