Thread: I hate to ask, but ...

Default I hate to ask, but ...

I know I'll probably get some phone calls after this, and I sure hate to ask ...

But are there and black students in the AKKI? Any black, black belts on the AKKI family tree? Any minorities at all?

I've been sworn to secrecy as to who actually made this allegation, so don't ask. It's important (just to me) to know the truth in this one. Hopefully after the post is answered, it can be completely deleted. But I need to know.

Rough subject, I'm fully aware, and I apologize from the start.

Thumbs up Re: I hate to ask, but ...

    Hi CaptShady,

I don't think you need to qualify your question or anything. You are curious because you heard that they don't promote minorities and you are asking an up front question, nothing to be ashamed of.

It is not a big deal one way or another. There could be many answers, and none of them will be answered unless you ask. Good for you.

You are putting it in such a way as it starts off on the wrong note.
Someone might think like "oh my gosh they have no minorities, shame on them".
I think it is something that is legit to ask if you have heard rumors.

I knew a fellow who was in the BKF, he was white and really enjoyed it because they had some good people in there.
But it was doomed, it was an experiment, sometimes they do not go right.

    So what...

This topic should be easily discussed in an open forum, especially when we have moderators that will be watching it like hawks after field mice.

    MHO.

    Regards, Gary

To quickly answer your 3 questions:

    1. yes
    2. yes
    3. yes if you go to the akki site and go to the rep page, click on the names and you will see there are various minorities.
This is by my eyewitness at the international camp.

Yes we have. Tommy Chavies was with us for a time but he left to do his own program. He was a 5th black. Randall Miller is is a 6th Black and he is Native American. To say we don't promote minorities is a complete farce and is an opinion based assumption and conjecture. Jeff Hogan, a black black belt is a student under John Herman. Great guy and great fighter. Mike White, soon to be black black belt is under John Herman as well. Larry Kongiaka, polynesian, Mr. Parker's son-in-law, was a 2nd degree black belt under Mr. Mills directly. Others are here but I hope this should be enough. Unfortunate how this gets started.

Alan, It sounds like you're just filling a quota with this post when a simple yes or no would've sufficed. Besides, what kinda question was that anyway? I gotta admit, off all the things I think of the AKKI, that issue never crossed my mind.

    Have a great Kenpo day

Sounds to me like Mr Jacob posted specific examples as opposed to just saying yes.

Well, you know how those people in Pasadena can get. Envious of anything not from their own camp, so they spread/create lies and mistruths. Probably mostly out of fear of something more exciting, with a stronger brotherhood, but who really knows why?

Well, yeah! I wouldn't want to be a part of an organization that was prejudice. I'm already part of one now, called "Texas".

To my texas brethren ... JUST KIDDING!!! Don't lynch me.

    DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!!!!

    ......oh wait....I'm from Kansas.

Nah Kirk, lay that concern to rest bro. I'd think that whomever lead you down that path is reeeeealllly reaching. Seems they may have ran out of angles to attack the AKKI from and had to go to the lowest accusation they can make, one that without a 'race roll-call'....which is demeaning....it's difficult to just outright argue against. It's like in general politics, the race card is a last ditch effort from a desperate loser.

Take care big-guy... hope to see you in the fall.

Walter Gillium is a 2nd Black in the AKKI and trains with me here in Dallas/ Fort Worth.

Also..the AKKI has a huge female membership. Something you do not often see in the martial arts.

I have noticed......folks from Texas are always discriminated against and left behind!!! I guess our arrival is always foretold by the smell of BS!!! ;-)
