It was there, now it is gone. I just spoke with Mr. Mills and he said it was posted then taken down and put back up. Can you post where it is back up at?

    Thanks!

Notice his control of his uke's center line.

Well, since he generally starts with his uke's arms open and down, he better have control. To me, whacking someone on the centerline isn't nearly as impressive as how to get to the guys center to start whacking. That isn't any sort of slight to Mr. Mills, he has phenomenal hands, but he isn't showing centerline control or access in these clips.

Fair enough. These clips do not show how Mr. Mills has gained access to his uke's center, only what he does once he has it. I am quite sure that he would have little or no trouble getting to it, though. The reason I pointed out the center line control is that it's of paramount importance in my opinion.

Great point! Centerline Set is one of Mr. Paul's tools we use to teach entering. If you're paying attention to the unfolding situation, entering in a self-defense situation is relatively easy. It's the fight where entering is dangerous and when CS is used dynamically; we begin to see the real application of the pieces that make up the set.

Awesome! Great use of the hands! Is it me, or does he does seem to square up to the the target quite a bit?

No, He squares up; however, that is not a bad thing when you get that close. You don't have to minimize targets when you are on top of the guy. He is checked... and mate.

Great (and interesting) point Sean...I hadn't really thought of it that way before...the way I've always looked at it, as fast as Mr. Mills is, if you're firing a machine gun at the guy, he's likely thinking about ducking, rather than pulling and firing his 6-shooter In reality though too, even though he may square up, his built in checks with the way he moves his hands has always amazed me.

(goes back to watch it a few more times )

I would expect that the guy wouldn't have a chance to respond to the flurry of hand strikes but if the opponent brings up a knee or a shin? Even trying to protect himself? Another kenpo "what if". :-)

I really only noticed that he squares up in his rotation but then goes back to a 45 degree angle. Without squaring up some, it's not as easy to get the rear hand involved.

Its only an issue if you are not aware that that could happen. I'm sure checking the legs is part of the game.

A proper Kenpo stance will account for this "what if".

That's kind of why I was asking the question. We don't really square up to a target like that. Waist movement is more preferred to get the back hand involved which also helps prevent the groin being open as a target. Go at 3:05 in this clip just to get an example of what I'm talking about. This is a public demonstration at the 2007 USKSF tournament in Baltimore.

Chest to chest is not a bad place to be. Consider that you want the guy to bend over than to fly back; however.
