I find when things get too far off topic they seem to turn into flame wars in short order.
Very - Keep it sharply focused
Heavy - A little "chat" is ok, but not pages worth of off topic chitchat
Somewhat - If it wanders around a bit, it's fine by me.
Minimal to None - As long as it's not an arguement, lets chat.
Staying on topic is never easy. Some boards let things wander alot, while others enforce a strict "focus".
How "strict" would you like topicality enforcement here to be?

I think occasional and good hearted conversation stimulates positive relationships and allows things to sometimes develop that would not in a sterile environment. Pick good moderators who can see IF a need is there to steer it back on topic and allow them to do it within reason. Nobody sits in a business or work meeting time after time without developing some good hearted fun and joking....at least that has been my personal experience![]()

A lot of subjects can be answered quickly, and then the thread is done. If such a thread strays o/t, why not let it go and promote a fellowship.
I have no problem if a thread strays slightly especially if a point of view or a comment breaks up the seriousness of daily life.
I agree! That is a very good way of putting it!Originally Posted by asangria

If other kenpo fora are any indication, as long as the mods are present and keep order, a little sidebar action here and there is okay with me.
