Arrow A good ol' Howdy from a new Arkansan

Hey all, my name is Ben, and I've started taking Kenpo in Springdale, Arkansas in Mr. Speakman's 5.0 system. I've read some of the previous posts both here and elsewhere about what some of the knowledgeable, more veteran Kenpoists have said about the system and it makes for some very interesting reading. I will say that being brand new to martial arts, I am very impressed with the system, and have seen the DVDs through blue (although I'm currently tidying up orange material).

But I didn't plan for this to be another debate on the system, just a little background knowledge. I'm glad to be part of the Kenpo community and hopefully I can use this resource to help learn some more of the history and fine points of our art. The fellowship with folks you have stuff in common with is always cool too.

    Anyway, glad to be aboard.

    Hi!

Welcome! Are you under Jeff McLaughlin?

I've not met him yet, but we've conversed a bit and he seems to be a stand-up guy.

Yes, Mr. McLaughlin is our instructor and he's been absolutely great. You can tell he loves the art, loves teaching it, and has a genuine interest in our learning and understanding of Kenpo.

Tell him I said hello and I believe I'll be seeing him at camp in less than a week. I really am looking forward to meeting him.

How long have you trained with him?

I was at the first class when he started under Mr. Speakman's franchise schools. That was January 2nd of this year. So that's, five, almost six months?

And I know he's heading to Vegas on Thursday for the big seminar. He's pumped and I wanted to go, but summer classes for graduate school cut me short on that deal.

Bummer that you can't make it. I'm leaving Wed to hang out with one of my friends for a day and a half before the seminars. I'm sure I'll see him when he gets in on Thursday.

I'm so glad you're enjoying the kenpo.

Greetings and salutations! The Speakman curriculum is good stuff. I know Amy is glad to have another 5.0 student to chat with. LOL. I look forward to your posts.

Thanks again. Heh, I noticed the title of my thread said I was a new Arkansan. Well, that's not true. I'm an Arkansan that's new to Kenpo and this forum. I figured you guys knew that, but I confused myself for a little bit.
