Hello Everyone,
My name is Derek Morrison, I'm live in London, ON, Canada, and I started training American Kenpo in 1986. I earned a rank of 3rd Degree Black in 2000 and then needed to retire due to illness. I started Training with, and because of, my lifelong friend Jason Arnold (Jaybacca). He introduced me to Kenpo by doing Squatting Sacrifice on me, on his front lawn. I had studied Goju a year or so earlier and this Kenpo stuff blew it out of the water. We trained almost everyday at his house or at his brothers school ... It was crazy hard training and we loved every minute of it. We then went on to train with Joe Foster for many years. I met the BlackPhoenix (Pat Robinson) at Joe's and he is still one of my good friends. Long 5 was one of the forms that Pat and I really enjoyed working on and performing
. It was at Joe's that I was able to meet and train with Mr. Parker a few times. I was fortunate enough to have Mr.Parker Demonstrate Five Swords on me ... WOW!! When he dropped that final strike...
. He also tested me for 3rd Degree Brown
, obviously one of the high points of my Kenpo Life. After we left Joe's, I went on to continue my Kenpo training with a number of different Instructors, including, Joe Palanzo, Frank Trejo and Steve Arsenault to name a few. I opened a Kenpo school of my own along the way, but I had to close it after I took Ill. Through the years I've met many amazing Instructors and made Great Friends, and I look forward to getting to know many more of you folks out here. After many years of being away from the kenpo community, I've finally got my health back to the point of being able to return to training
. Hopefully I'll get a chance to workout with some of you, and if not, at least share some ideas and have some discussions on this forum.
Yeaaa, I know it was a long winded post, but I wanted to give you a little bit of info on myself...![]()

Hello Derek and welcome to KenpoTalk ... happy posting!
Glad to see you have worked with Jason Arnold. He has a very similar background that I do. I have corresponded with him several times. He is also very heavy into Arnis as we are. Also makes weapons as I do. We had a lot in common to talk about. Glad you are able to get back into you Kenpo.
