Smile Greetings from the 1st State!

    Morning, Gang!

As a new Member of KT... I just wanted to pop in to say, "Hello!" to everyone here. My name is Andrew, and I’m a married, 39-year-old, stepfather to three… and Grandfather (yes, you’re reading that correctly) of six…

At the age of 16 (1983) I took EPAK at a local dojo. Being a teenager at the time... I only stayed with it for a brief time... and only obtained an 8th Kyu Orange before a sparring disagreement with an assistant instructor left me with two cracked ribs. Over the years, I’ve studied a few different styles… spending the most time in Korean Tang Soo Do where I currently hold a 3rd Gup (2nd Brown)…

Anyways, I'm a L-O-N-G way from being a teen these days... And, in celebration of my approaching 40th birthday in February... I've decided to rededicate myself to my Martial Science training!

Currently, I study the Filipino Martial Art of Modern Arnis, read everything I can on Jeet Kuen Do, and recently had the great honor of receiving my introduction into Shaolin Wushu from the current Martial Abbott of the Northern Shaolin Temple in Henan, China...

As a part of my return to the MA… I've also decided to return to my EPAK roots... as I believe EPAK, Modern, Arnis, and Shaoliin Wushu are compatible arts that will compliment each other well... along with Jeet Kuen Do...

Recently, I purchased the 5-volume Infinite Insights set… as well as the Kenpo Encyclopedia from a friend… and I look forward to reading over the material! The quest for a EPAK instructor will start after the Holidays pass…

So, I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here... and will be happy to explain anything about the FMA's that I'm able to...

    HAVE A GREAT DAY!

    Yours in the arts,

    Andrew

WOW! You guys are F-A-S-T over here! hehehe

Thank you for the warm welcomes!

Yes, there are a few EPAK schools in the area... Jim Klapp owns one American Karate Studio out near Newark... Pat Caputo (my previouse Chief Instructor) owns the Wilmington studio... Sensei Dino owns Karate USA down in the City of Wilmington... and The Movement Workshop is a dance/karate studio owned by one of my old Instructos and his Wife (a fellow student at the time)...

Mark Lawler also has a studio up in Kennett Square, PA... he was one of my former Asst. Instructorsa along with Brian Thomas (now of TMW)...

As TMW just moved into a new storefront two-blocks from the enterance to my neighborhood... I'll probably go there for my EPAK stuff. Mr. Thomas and I got along pretty well "back in the day"... and you can't beat walking to class!

Please, email me if I can be of any assistance while you are in the Wilmington area, Mr. Finn... or if you'd like to do a mini KenpoTalk get together for a cup of "joe"... and perhaps David and I can get together sometime... as B'almer is only a short drive... and I'm right off of both 95 and 495!

Anyways... thanks for making the FNG feel welcomed!

    Yours in the arts,

    Andrew

P.S. In terms of Instruction in EPAK... my real questions are those of lineage. I don't known Mr. Caputo's lineage back to SGM Parker... nor Sensei Dino's. Everyone else is a student of Mr. Caputo. So, that's what I want to check into...

First of all, welcome to KT, of course. The coolest kenpo place on the net is right here.

Secondly, I have to ask, how on earth did you become a grandfather of SIX by age 39. You're only a few months older than me and my oldest is 9.

Grandfather of one perhaps, but six? Was it a difficult birth?

    Hi, Miss Amy!

Well... I ask myself that most days!

Actually, the math is there... I'm 39... the Mrs. is 49... and the girls are all from her 1st marriage... they were only 11,12, and 18 when I met them all... and are now going on 23, 24, and 30!

Jarred is my most recent grandson (almost 6-mos)... and is 4 of 4 for the boys... Brianna was #5 (almost 9-mos)... and was girl #2...

When J-rod was born, I told the oldest, "That's it! I have a six-pack of grandkids now! You had three of the six... you win! GAME OVER!"

Although I must say... it was fun being the only multiple grandfather at my 20-year High School reunion! It sure made for some interesting conversations around the room! hehehe

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

    Andrew,
I am sure that the EPAK and the Arnis will dovetail very nicely. I am not so sure about the WU SHU. Very different stances and movement. them all together,Probably too much at one time at a low leval in all of them.
Anyway good luck trying to bring them all together at the same time.

    I am most Respectfully,
    Sifuroy
