Default Here Comes one more of the Sam-Pai Clan

Hi to all, My name is Donie I'm Brown 1 under Sifu DangeRuss. I've been with Sifu for almost 6 years. Before I started my DangeRuss training I had 8 year in different styles, I did not spend enough time in one to get all that I can out of it, but I did know there was something better out there for me all I saw was a dark cave with a lot of stumbling and headaches. I saw Mr. Speakman in the perfect weapon. as we all know it was Kenpo or the light in that dark cave if you will. What Sifu DangeRuss has done for me and has done for the many before and after me is he gives us that light and has us move through the cave not like the teachers of the past but guiding us (and kicking my ass when I need it ). Ok I'm long winded but you can tell where I get it from can you lol. Just wanted to say hi to all my brothers and sisters of Kenpo and to say you have unlashed the Red Dragon do not hold back WE WON'T.

Sure can *LOL*, but it's ok. There's some good points blowin' in that wind. Good to have more variety here instead of us AKers sitting around getting myopic or arguing about the "true meaning" of life/kenpo/what Mr. Parker said or did. Welcome to KT!

Welcome! Glad to have you, even if you are part of the Sam-Pai Clan.

Just kidding, of course. We're very happy to have you.

Question Re: Here Comes one more of the Sam-Pai Clan

    To the Sam Pai Clan,

What are the major differences between Sam Pai, and Mr.Dimmick's newer version called 3 Shields? I know Mr.Parker Sr. was supportive of Mr.Dimmick, but why did Mr.Dimmick form his own kenpo offshoot? From Mr.Person's book I saw quite a bit of what appeared to be Parker System stuff. Thanks for the info..

    Kenpochrtn...

I don't wanna beat a dead horse, here, as this has been discussed on other threads recently, but....

We (Sam Pai) share a great deal of materiel, in terms of basics, special weapons, strikes, kicks, finger techniques and foot movements. Mr Dimmick added the influences of Hung Gar, Choy Li Fut and Chito Ryu to his branch of Kenpo. So many techniques would be familiar, if not virtually the same. We share forms Finger Set, Long 2, Short 3, Form 4, Form 5, Twin Shadows (aka Book Set/ 2-Man Set). Now our interpretations of these, may be noticably different from the rest of the family, showing a bit of our varied roots. Although we practice other forms that share commen names to the AK names, that is where their similarity ends. Mr Dimmick created our Short 1, Short 2, Long 1, Long 3, Creed Form, Returning Shadows (A much more sophisticated 2 man form) and I have added Dragon Dance, a series of White Lotus Sword forms, and a series of Living Arnis Forms to the curriculum.

Mr Dimmick, in the year 2000, reformed the system further, into what is now known as 3 Shields Kenpo. He has dropped all of the pre-existing forms and now teaches what he calls the Fighting Warrior Sets. My understanding is the whole curriculum has evolved yet again. I have no first hand knowledge of the new stuff.

Mr Michael Persons, whose book you referred to, has gone on to form 7 Winds Kenpo. (www.7windskenpo.com)

We teach Sam Pai Classic...with a hint-o-DangeRuss flavoring. What kind of flavoring? I have re-introduced study of nerve centers and pressure points as they apply to our techniques. We have added more ground control and finishing moves. I have added some exploration of the Animal Systems of Gun Fu. We have decided taken some different direction to our weapons defense, ala my FMA background and Gun Fu training. However again, what we are doing should be immediately reconizable to any of the old school Sam Pai folks out there.

Hope that helped ? Any further questions I'll answer as evasively as possible. (Just kidding)
