Gory details, I'm sure we can all share a few after our years of training. My first instructor was a Tracy Kenpoist who then was introduced to a Parker guy from the US (Dennis Tostin) and our school wnet through a major change and we had to relearn everything to date,,,he hooked up Polanzo then Parker directly.
Life got in the way and I had to stop my 'formal training' for some years. My second teacher was a prodigy of the first and taught EPAK. I was there for a couple of years, byt he closed his school.
My third and current teacher was originally a Tracy guy, transitioned to EPAK at least 10yr. ago and has never turned back. He was under at one point under Polanzo, but is currently under Trejo and very happy there.
In all, I've been a kenpo student for the past 22? years and consider myself fortunate that I lucked into a kenpo school in the beginning.

Joe Foster switched from Tracy to EPAK after meeting Tostin. I don't know if he trained with Dennis or if that was only the catalyst for change. I believe that Joe trained with Polanzo (though I doubt either of them would admit it now) and then directly with Parker for a short time before his death.

I remember Dennis telling a story of how he and Mike Donovan practically started of trainng together. One of them (not certain if it was Dennis or Mike) was a beginner student studying the Tracy system, and the other sat outside watching every class so the ventually the instructor invited him in and asked him to be the other guys training partner. From there both of them flourished

Small change to Jay's story.
Mike studied before Dennis. Military training, then some traditional school, then Tracy's. That is where they both started kenpo.
Try to picture Dennis as a poor man standing outside watching Mike try out those cool (for the time) techniques. Hard to imagine, but too true.
Then Mike went to North Carolina, the California, the up here to the great white north.
Of course, it was years later that Dennis introduced Mike to some of Professor's knife work. Mike never looked back after that. (They were both drunk at the time though, lol)
